Anyone have one of these shotguns? Should I get the mag fed version and is it a reliable configuration? I'm trying to decide between a grizzly, Sap 6, 870 Tactical, or 590 A1.... I wish I could have them all... maybe one day, until then I'm trying to decide which one of these to start with. I've had a Maverick 88 and also Stevens 320. Both were good guns for cheap but I sold them both to put the funds toward a Vz 58 and now that I have my Vz I feel very incomplete without a shotgun.

Have the tube fed.

Gone through over to 1K rounds through it so far, and that include 250 rds of 00, 100 slugs, and the rest in various forms of birdshot and target loads. This summer, just for giggles, I didn't clean it or oil it between April and October, and ran about 600 rounds through it in the meantime.

Not 1 single failure of any sort, except maybe a couple of short strokes when I was getting shoulder sore from running it at the range all afternoon.

First thing I did with it was swap out the tactical plastic for something more to my liking. Then replaced the bead with an XS Big Dot Tritium to fix the POA/POI issues (the bead that comes with is too low, making the point of impact way high compared to point of aim - the Big Dot is almost the perfect height to fix this).

When I head camping it goes in the trunk. Long drives on seldom used highways, it's on the back seat. Always. No exceptions. I trust it. I keep a bear banger and a flare in the buttstock shell holder, as those two shells are the absolute most likely ones to save my gimpy-kneed middle aged white Scottish @ss if I get lost in the bush or go off the highway on a lonely stretch.

I've got the tube magazine and I love it. A bit on the heavy side but that's fine for helping with recoil. Don't think a bear banger would be necessary these guns are loud, I mean wow it's pretty intense. Last time I was at the rifle range the guy next to me was shooting a 300wsm with a muzzle break and the sound was on the same level as my grizzly. Lots of fun you'll love it.

I think you mis-understand how bear bangers work... They basically go off about 100 feet from the muzzle. The muzzle report from them is quite soft - not much more than a primer for a charge - but the noise at the spot where they go off is quite intense. Easier on the ears for the shooter that way, a lot harder on any game you want to scare off that isn't too close.

A bear closer than 100 feet I'm not bothering with the banger, just straight up slugs for that problem.

That is a fine looking shot gun. These DA Grizzlies look very beefy... Value is important to me, these guns sound like quality at a fair price. I don't want any more bottom of the barrel shotguns either though.

I have a tube style and love it. I wouldn't trust the mag feed to work when it counts

I will say that while I love mine, and it runs like a champ, that may not always be the case with the DA/Norinco guns. They do have a somewhat higher percentage of "built on a Monday" guns than some other outfits. One friend got the Mag Fed grizz, and it never, ever ran right. He started to monkey with it, and it just runs less right now.

At the same time, all manufacturers can turn out the odd turkey from time to time. My 10/22 should have never made it through QC, but it did, with that highly sought after "Ruger" stamp on it.

I love my magfed grizz its smoother then a wingmaster I #### you not, but the catch is it took alot of work too get there so if you like too tinker and you put the work in you can have a 110% reliable gun that has benefit of fast loading with a mag.

I got a HP-9 14" tube fed from Marstar, it currently wears a 12.5" barrel, Knoxx Specops recoil stock and tommy gun foregrip. I consider this gun 100% reliable and would trust my life to it.

I bought an 8.5" mag fed from Canada Ammo and have not had any issues. Actually very happy so far. I only have a few hundred rounds through it but so far so good. Very impressive fireball in low light conditions :)

I found the quality on my grizzly to actually be as good or better than my 870 express. I also prefer the top of the receiver on the grizz to the 870. I have the tube mag grizz.

I got the first release of the mag fed 18" with folding stock and ghost ring sights. I love that gun.

I did did do a few improvements, not big money stuff just cleaned up the mag lips of sharp edges and chamfered the bottom of the breach a little to help feeding. It defiantly smoothed out over Time.

I left they gun alone maintenance wise for a year or two. Lots of shooting and just leaving it alone. Throw it in the dirt clear the mud from the barrel and shoot some more. Only problem I ever had was very light surface rust from my damp basement.

That and the pins that hold in the trigger group tend to walk out a little if they're oily.

I also modified the mags to hold six rounds. Nice to go out with the boys and shoot some skeet load up more then a box of shells in my mags and shoot uninterrupted.

I made threads on my mad mods and chamfering couple years back.

I bought used one 8.5 with mag, cleaned lubed and since that never had an issue, feeding is 100 reliable. The onlt thing i wish to improve is sights as its only bead and no rear sights.

@Darkshadow - could you share how-to on your mag mod?

I've had my grizzly mag for about 5 years. It feeds and shoots trouble free, it's the model with the 18.5" barrel and no shoulder stock. I don't like that the pump handle flexes so much under a small amount of torque, I didn't pay much for it so I shouldn't complain.

All you guys with the Remington laminate stock sets on your grizzlys...is it a straight bolt on for the 12.5" barreled models?

Stock is direct bolt on , but the forend needs to be opened up a bit to fit (it's a little smaller and won't slide on). I have the same set up as post #7 and the same shell holder as post #2. Mine came with the top rail for a red dot and receiver was already tapped.
