LA-K12 Puma...a viable 3 gun option?

As the title states, do you think the LA-K12 Puma is a viable shotgun for 3 Gun competitions? We ( wife and I) are toying with the idea of getting involved as some of you already know and I am going to have to buy a new shotgun to use for 3 gun fun. We are just going to do a few matches for fun this year (Probably WRAS and CHAS) I think and I am not able to drop thousands of dollars on it (yet). We will see how serious we get about competing.

Does anyone use the Puma? Is it good or no? What are your opinions on it? Does using a semi-auto box fed put you in a different division?

If by "viable" you mean "can you use it and complete the CoFs", then the answer is yes (provided it's reliable). A 28" full-choked 870 is also "viable".

I don't know what WRAS and CHAS do for divisions, but in our privateer matches in the Peace Country a detachable mag shotgun puts you in Open.

Personally, I wouldn't touch one with a ten-foot pole for 3G use. There are far better quality, proven designs in pump and semi available.

Edit: If you do go with one, make sure you have at least half a dozen mags for it.
 
Hey man, good chance I will have mine at RDSC on friday if you want to try it out. I haven't got spare mags yet, but you will get the idea. I bought mine with 3 gun in mind but have yet to find a target load that cycles reliably, but that is due to my lack of access to different types of ammo where I live. I hope to pick up an assortmant of target loads to try out from RDSC.

My 930 needed 1 1/8 oz, 3 dr. eq. loads to cycle reliably.
 
Again.... 'Look at what those who have been in the game a while are using.

There are less expensive, less unproven shotguns you can choose from.

This thing you're lookin' at sure has a high novelty factor, but man.... Just looking at it and thinking of 3gun competition makes me throw up.

Reading the specs... Mags hold only 5 rounds and the it's only got a cylinder bore. No mention of chokes. Cylinder bore doesn't cut it in 3gun.
So... $900 for a pump gun that only holds 5 in the mag and needs to be threaded for chokes... If it can be.

It's a none starter right there.

I'll go so far as to say anyone who buys this gun to compete in action shooting is making a mistake.

If going for a pump Supernova is the default choice. I got a good EE deal, but I had to trade the pistol grip stock for a Comfortech stock before it was suitable for action shooting. If you're dead-set on a Mossberg pump action, 590A1 is the one to go with. Otherwise, just go with Versamax

The supernova looks great but seems like it would need a tube extension due to 4+1 capacity.

Imagining having to watch someone shoot a CoF with that shotgun makes me nauseous....Lol.
A short, short barrelled bull-pup shotgun... my bet is it doesn't "point" very well. I would not want to have to engage any flying clays with it.
I mean what's the sight radius on that thing...? 12"?
The five round mags... 'Coupled with that bull-pup design... I can't see that as a recipe for success.
No chokes... I predict many steel targets left standing.
