Japanese Barrels for the Auto 5

I noticed that many sites say the Japanese barrels are ok for steel shot with an older Belgian Auto-5

Browning site specifically states

Note: Belgian Auto-5 barrels are interchangeable with the new Invector barrels which are made in Japan. With this new Invector barrel installed on the Belgian-made Auto-5 receiver, steel shot loads can be used.

This implies to me that, much like Belgian barrels, the non-invector Japanese barrels are also not suitable for steel shot?

Assuming Japanese made modified fixed vs modified invector -

Is there a difference in the forcing cones length between invector vs non-invector Japanese barrels?
Were the invector barrels better steel?

Thanks

I have a 1953 Auto 5 with a second barrel which is a much later Japanese vent rib barrel, no removable chokes.. The Japanese barrel has seen steel shot through it with no problem.

If I understand correct, their are two mods for shooting steel (assuming you have a suitable barrel ie not Damascus, BP only etc)

ream full chokes to modified
extend forcing cone

I actually read it on a sticky here http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...7-Steel-Shot-Older-Gun?highlight=forcing+cone

It states

I must have posted this 50 times now...

SHOTGUN BARREL ALTERATIONS FOR STEEL SHOT

Forcing Cone Alteration:

Factory shotgun barrels usually have a fairly short and abrupt forcing cone. The forcing cone is the tapered area just ahead of the chamber where the shell is contained. Altering the forcing cone, so it is one and one half or two inches in length, reduces recoil and improves the pattern density. Trap shooters and skeet shooters have been doing this for many years. It is a good benefit to the steel shot user as well.

I am wondering if the modified choke Japanese barrels (both fixed and invector) have a lengthened forcing cone compared to the Belgian ones

Japanese Browning barrels with fixed chokes are safe for all modern steel loads. The ones bored FULL probably won't pattern as well do to the steel being over choked. I personally spoke with Browning a few years back with concerns over my Auto 5 12 ga Magnum barrel made in Japan choked Full. The advice was the barrel is safe but the patterns with larger steel from the Full choked barrel would likely suffer. It handled BB and numbers 1 through 4 with no problems.

I have Browning BPS with full choke no invectors. I also shoot a Browning Citori with invector chokes. I took the 2 of them out to pattern with BB. BPS full choke and Citori Imp. Cyl. And Mod. The Bps threw superior patterns. What does this prove ? Nothing . Pattern your barrel but do not be afraid to shoot steel through a full choke Browning Barrel made in Japan.

Alright thanks guys. If I understand correctly, the difference in the Belgian vs Japanese barrels really seems to be only the steel used itself. ie the choke restriction and forcing cone are the same then?
