Hey Gang,
I'm in the market for a 9mm pistol mag fed carbine for coyote hunting. The coyotes are REALLY becoming an issue near London. Just last week they attacked a couple of horses & cows near Lucan.
I have read a lot of the threads on here regarding the JR Carbines & the Theureon Defense Carbines & I have narrowed it down to that STYLE of firearm. I like the tactical look of these guns over the bulky (IMO) look of the Aimpoints I have seen. I am not a big fan of the Beretta 9mm look either ( just too Buck Rogers ray-gun looking IMO). I just wanted to ask the forum if there might be any other 9mm pistol mag fed carbines I might be overlooking. I like the pistol mag capacity :) . Must be Non-Restricted as I do not have my RPAL.
Thanks in advance for any advise.

Uhh, there's a new one in the works. It was just released at shot show this year I believe, the name somehow escapes me right now, but it does look superior to the JR or the theuron. Alas, it will be a few years till it gets and FRT and makes it's way into Kanada.

*Edit: It wasn't shot show, this is what I was thinking of:

If coyotes are yer problem, then a .223 makes more sense. You can get Lar -15 mags to give you that pistol mag capacity.
There are a few NR guns that fit this bill. I'm sure somebody will come along soon to tell you about them.

Keltec SU-16 is the better option for hunting.

I`m not settled on the 9mm. I just didn`t know about other options when it comes to pistol mag rifles & carbines.
I guess according to the fellas on here, I can`t hunt yotes with the 9mm anyway. (BTW Guys: taking my hunting course Feb 21st & 22nd)
That being said, I think perhaps a tool like Dexter`s in .223 that`ll take the pistol mags will be my best option.

AND: just so you all know I have a bad injury to my fingers that makes loading magazines a pain (literally). If it`s cold outside, my fingers are less than useless for loading, hence the desire for higher capacity magazines.

In a perfect world a HK UMP with a NR barrel would be my choice but there are so few in Canadian civilian hands in any caliber including 9mm

I'm thinking your first decision is going to be pistol calibre or .223.

I have a JR Carbine in 9mm, I can tell you it is an incredibly accurate rifle for a pistol carbine for walking and stalking while varmint hunting. I use it primarily for close encounter coyotes and will use it on gophers this spring. I carry a Savage BVSS in 223 for mid to long range engagements (200m - 500m), out in the prairies a close encounter becomes a long distance one in a hurry.

On the JRC, when I pulled it out of the box they leave a few things loose and not buttoned down so that it is easier to setup for your exact interest; IE: RH or LH ejection and cocking handle. When or if you buy one, make sure to take a few minutes and tighten down a few things. I also immediately bought a magpul tango down vertical grip and the pistol grip, and sling adaptor for the front rail. I use a bushnell Trophy red dot in 1 x 32 with red or green illumination, again this is for engagements 150m or less. I have zeroed the rifle at 75m and know the aim off for other key ranges. I hope to get video of popping a couple critters.

When I make my way into my hide I carry the JRC with a blackhawk 2 point sling at the ready, I strap the Savage over the shoulders in a drag bag and make my way in. Reactive shooting is an absolute blast, it has been very successful! I think when gopher season starts this spring it is going to be amazing. Also note, blowback actions are dirty, it's worth having a packable bottle of lube or CLP when you are out blasting.

Below is a link to a photo showing my setup, I hope this helps. Cheers.

It's a weird Ontario hunting law.
You can't hunt in most of Southern Ontario with any projectile that is larger than .275" diameter, which eliminates the 9mm.

Of course it makes no sense whatsoever, but that's how it is.
