I am wondering what you guys are using for cheaper plinking bullets. I am shooting 308 win. These will be used for just shooting tannerite and other items at various distances with buddies. I was hoping not to burn through match kings, a maxs and bergers when just messing around with friends. I would like to continue working on accurate loads but also want some cheaper fun rounds. Thanks.

I haven't used the Hornady 150 gr fmj in .308 but I have used them in .223 and found them quite accurate. The .308 cal gets good reviews. The Hornady 168 bthp is fairly cheap as far as match bullets go, about .38 cents a piece locally for me. That's comparative to hunting bullets and not much more than the fmj's which is why I've never tried the fmj's.

You probably won't do much better than Hornady 3037B 30 CAL .308 150 GR FMJ-BT Bullets (bulk)
Higginson Powders Inc. in Hawkesbury, ON has them at a very reasonable $23.75 per 100

I'm glad I could help you.

just an f.y.i. - Andrew Higginson told me that they are about 3 - 4 weeks behind because of a recent powder delivery...

I agree the Hornady FMJ is a good, cheap plinker.

I bought a box (500) of DRG 0.309" cast lead bullets (175 gr, as I recall) These are pointy, very cheap (about $40, as I recall) and make super good plinkers for up to 100 yards. That covers 99% of my plinking needs.

I load them with 12 gr of Unique. No leading and quite accurate. Easy on the shoulder and the wallet.
