Lee Auto-Prime WARNING???

lee makes 2 auto prime tools. one is supposed to be unsafe to use with federal primers because it has more leverage. The newer version is safe to use with all brands of primers and has less leverage. It also has a pistion to isolate the primer tray from the case being primed. This newer tool usually has a square primer and the older one has a round tray.

I have both. Only in the new "safer" model have I had issues with small pistol and small rifle primers going in sideways and upside down. Definetly a better design to stop a chain reaction but the additional step in motion seems to increase the chance for a flipped primer. And yes I am using the correct tray for small primers.

once you get the feel for the auto prime you should have no problem.. You have to feel the primer start in the pocket, then press it in..
