I removed the quad weavers that are mounted just proud of the action this evening, they always struck me as out of place tacticool add ons on what should be a simple, minimal, light pack/survival rifle. I think it looks better just have to plug the 12 holes with some grubs. Anyone else on the same page, obviously I m OK with the stock peeps. Neat little rifle, keeps my early 60s AR7 company.
 
I have both a badger and AR7... Interesting so you have an original ar7? Also can you post a pick of the badger? I agree it's a nifty little gun, and what's the point of the rails?
 
Yeah AR7, patent pending, early camo version stock. Previous owner had a custom leather stock cover that attaches to a saddle made, initials burnt into the leather too, neat artifact.
Sorry, pix is beyond my IT skills, but if you have a Badger take a T 10 torx to it. As for use of the rails? Well to mount stuff, lights, dots, bottle opener...IMO they contradict the design and intended use of the rifle. Cheers.
 
I covered the side and bottom rails with hard rubber rail covers, and then wrapped it with cammo coloured (wait for it...) duct tape. Also wrapped the wire stock, because the bare metal against the face kind of sucks when it's cold out.

With the rail covers on, it provides a good, fits my hands nicely, forend.

Great little backpacker. Also, it magically transports itself into my trunk if my car has any plans on heading past city limits.

I know that forend looks a bit fat in this pic, but it isn't and fatter than a normal forend in front of the receiver, just looks that way because it stops so bluntly instead of tapering out toward the front of the barrel.

Looks like you can just get a peek of your front sight over that camo wrap.

The under and side rails are held on by three torx screws each. Makes me wonder if a small fore stock could be fabricated and secured into those existing screw holes, hummm 3d printer...
Also like to have a simple sling that is as sparse as the rest of the gun.

I don't mind the plastic rails. They make a decent hand grip, don't add much weight and I can easily run a red dot on top.
The peeps work pretty good and I added a white dot on the front blade to get it to stand out a bit better. Another thing I did was to bend the wire stock down by clamping it in a vice near the receiver and just using hand pressure it was easy to do. This gave me a more comfortable cheek weld using the peep sight and also reduced the width of the unit when folded by an inch or so. Win-win :)
It would be nice if the front sight allowed swapping dovetail sights so a guy could run a brass bead or fiber optic unit easily.

The only remaining thing I'd like to do (which chiappa should do) is figure out a small folding pistol grip to better support the trigger hand in use.

Some sort of strap or elastic over the shell holder is needed as well.

I know... That was a fun project that was more of a joke than anything.

My gun does not have all that on it any more. I went for the minimalist look, Doc optic micro red dot and a steel thread protector.

Right now it has a 1.5-4 optic, but that was just for ammo testing.

These really are great guns.

And man... when I brought that tacticool little badger out and shot at 100y people gave me the weirdest looks.... especially with my .308 beside me.
 
Daver, did you get that pistol grip to clamp on the the small rail or did you use the threaded hole?
That grip substantially cut down so that the web of the hand could be supported and maybe one finger would be pretty good.
Definitely a small market out there for someone with a 3D printer......

It does both, I do wish there was a better pistol grip option out there.
