I've heard mixed opinions on this caliber and I love it but I don't know if in 10 years it will be impossible to find. Ballistically it's great it seems to be gaining in popularity but I don't know... What's your guess, will it stay around or not?

There are tens of thousands of HM2's being enjoyed by shooters... with demand, there will be supply.

I think the ammo is more readily available in western Canada (I'm told) and the only place around here (Southern Ontario) I've seen it is Bass Pro. Even then, supply is very spotty. I own a North Haven Marlin 917M2 with only about 200 rounds through it and boy...fun rifle/fun caliber. However, even though I have a couple of bricks of ammo stockpiled for it, I'm reluctant to shoot it if I don't see replacement ammo on the shelves of stores.

If that big US rimfire site in the states is any indication, there are all KINDS of M2 shooters around...I just think there are more down there than up here.

I'm not sure if I even ever seen hm2 for sale.
But you can still source .22wmf, so anything is possible.

I hear it's damn accurate too

Thats what I heard. Mine sure wasn't. Also mine at 200 yards the groups were around 15" and bullets were hitting sideways. A guy I know has a marlin and it shoots amazing. Also no bullet tumbling problems. Mine was good for 50 yards other then that grab something else. I have 22lr's that shot better at 100 with mini mags then my hm2 did

My Cooper in 17mach2 averages around 3/4" for five shots at 100 yards, and it does a great job on ground squirrels. My rifle prefers Eley ammunition, and I have 16,000 rounds on hand.

I am a 17 fan.....HM2, HMR, 17FB, 17 Rem, 17 Hornet, 17 WSM, love them all. I have seen the 17HM2 ammo dry right up so that no one has it but since December there has been a new influx of the newer labelled Hornady around. Gone are the days of cheap ammo in any calibre I think, now that they are higher but I still see 17HM2 for $10-11.00 box on the shelves here in Edmonton. I think Savage is the only cost effective available maker but like to think that it is here to stay......Just in case I buy a brick as often as I can.

Canadian Tire in Bellville Ontario had a pile of it when I was in there couple of months ago. I have 1500 rounds of the Remington ammo so should be good for a while.
Scott....

I have two HM2's left and a stockpile of about 6K in ammo... I have owned more than a dozen rifles chambered for HM2 and they were all very accurate. In fact the most accurate rifle (@100m) I have ever owned was an HM2.

I bought a Sako Quad with the 4 barrels and its my favourite caliber. I use it for target shooting and plinking, but it comes into its own for grouse hunting. Its so flat shooting within 150m compared to a 22lr.

My only disappointment is choice of ammo. Its 2 types at best, but supplies are readily available here on the rock. Internet seems to be an easy place to purchase too.

Candocad.

I love the caliber and am just hoping it takes off

What do you mean? It has been around more than a decade... it is well past the "take-off" point... it is as popular as it is ever going to be... but they have made enough rifles chambered for it, that there will always be enough demand to make ammo production viable for companies like CCI.
