Thanks for the warning. The STI's are looking better.

Well, my sample size was only one pistol, but I'd say to get your hands on the one you'd be buying just to be safe.

I picked up an STI Trojan 45 new during the Christmas sales, and a lightly used Spartan 4 9mm about the same time. I'm not disappointed with either, other than by the utilitarian finishes (I like polished blue/stainless for preference, but a good deal is a good deal).

I'd agree on the STI Trojan. I really like mine and the sale last fall was a great deal but I also wish the finish was a little nicer.

If I didn't like the looks (R1) or have some sentimental attachment (SR1911) to my other .45s I'd sell them and just keep the Trojan. The sights are the best of the bunch and it just feels right. I wasn't crazy about the coarse front strap STIppling, but I've gotten used to it. About all I've done is replace those thin grips/bushings on it, tweaked the sear spring a bit, and put on my preference of an arched MSH (the STIpled stock MSH didn't afford much grip anyway, it might be more tactile if it weren't polymer).
