Hi there,

Just wanted to let people know! This is what I have discovered at the range today, Federal Automatch and the American Eagle .22 is the exact same ammo! I know they are both made by Federal but still seems odd. They are both 40gr solids. Both weigh the exact same on the scale, The odd Automatch one weighs 1-2 Grains more! Does that justify the large price difference? I don't think so! They both work good but a box of 325 is around the same as a box of 500.

Anyone else notice this?

Not complaining! Just showing everyone my findings!

PS, New ruger 10/22 works awesome! Ate threw everything I fed it at the range! :) I wasn't expecting anything less just very pleased with it!

Looking at your first pic it looks like the bullet shape is slightly different. You never know, the match stuff could have a different propellent, tighter QC etc.

If that is true, why then does AE .22 ammo jam my GSG about every 5th round but the Federal Auto Match feeds flawlessly? Same thing happens in my .22 AR build. Auto match works without any issues. AE jams frequently. I'll stick with Automatch.

Must be more then the eye can see! Im not surprised! Id hope that the automatch would be better as it costs more!

But I have yet to have an issue with the American Eagle, I will have to try it in my AA Glock Conversion kit, its more picky then anything I've ever shot!

Like I said, lovin the new 10/22! It eats threw everything! Just get a ruger to eat up the ammo you can't use elsewhere lol :)

I don't buy AE anymore. 40 rounds in a box doesn't cut it.
I feel like I'm getting cheated out of 10 rounds.

There is much more to ammo than you can see from a casual external inspection... not the least of which is powder and primer...

My recently purchased bricks of AE consisted of 10 boxes of 50 in red cardboard bricks... and they function perfectly and with decent accuracy.

Bullet looks a bit different to me. When you start getting into higher end ammo it may all look the same but you are paying for quality control.
The sk ammo I have is made by lapua but its far from lapua centre x

Bullets look pretty much the same but quality is far from the same

It is reasonably understood that bulk packs of .22LR are typically the "floor sweepings" of more expensive cartridges or components that didn't pass more stringent QC standards. This may not be the case with every manufacturer or bulk pack, but as Rugerman pointed out above the difference is not necessarily visible to the naked eye.
