Beo mags.....can't wait!!!

It is very clear... Have you ever read it?

The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. As a consequence, the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in.

The same capacity of what ? The same caliber or another one ? So much place to interpretation ...
With the Lar-15 mag it is clear. We are only using 10 rounds of .223 for what the mag have been manufactured for.
They also gave in exemple the Marlin model 45 but again it is a pistol mag that is loaded at is maximum capacity and in the same caliber.

On the section 5 they talk about the switch caliber and they use a good exemple with the HK P7 but it is clearly write " 5. Magazines for semiautomatic handguns which contain more than ten (10) rounds of a different calibre " They are not talking about semi-automatic rifle.

It is just lacking of precision.

Call them and see by yourself what they have to say.

Why they are not able to say YES or NO ? It is a real problem because they are supposed to be the authority on that matter.

I am not saying you can't do it but it is what i call a grey Zone ...

I won't be buying any of these aluminum mags.

I will hold out for the day when black steel mags become available.

i bought some. i think its a great deal. i bought the lar-15 mags for $30 a pop so if i can get an extra 50% capacity it is easily worth the extra $10. As the market brings competition, and 10 round bodies, the price will drop. And for now, I have a nice metal magazine for close to the same cost of a LAR. If it functions well, I will probably grab some more.

no grey zone, the maximum capacity is 5 beowulf. if you stick 8 bagels in your beowulf mag, thats your problem but still entirely legal since the capacity of the magazine remains 5 beowulf, not 8 bagels. If they made a magazine for bagels, that magazine would have to be limited to 5 bagels, which in this case since its a beowulf magazine the capacity is 5 beowulf.

i really don't understand why this is complicated you don't need to get all antsy and call the cfo on this mater since its a 5 round capacity of .50 beowulf magazine.

jeez!

Because it seems like at least half the people on CGN are drama queens.

We all surf on a grey zone with these .50 beowulf mag. The RCMP will have to statute on them one time or another.

People always refer to the Special Bulletin for Businesses No. 72 but it is far from being clear for the .50 beowulf.
This is why business member will never told that they can be used with .223 ammos.

BTW the CFO have still no clear answer but this will come.

What is unclear about it all Charles??

I believe those that cannot grasp what the bulletin and/or the FA states, are not native English speakers. I am not making this statement to be disrespectful, but it is pretty clear what the law says. Yes, legalese is complicated and written that way intentionally, but "The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. As a consequence, the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in" is pretty clear to me.

.50 Beo mags are designed and manufactured for the .50 Beo AR. They are designed to hold .50 Beo cartridges and since the .50 Beo AR is a Semi, it can only hold 5rds of .50 Beo. If the magazine happens to fit another rifle, and functions with another calibre, the designed magazine capacity of the magazine has not changed.

The only concern I have ever had with the aftermarket .50 Beowulf mags is potential copyright infringement...which seems to be reinforced (to me anyway) by the fact that these are not available in the US. Wouldn't stop me from buying any though... :)

Rod Giltaca (Civil Advantage) did a video specifically on the Press Check .50 Beowulf mags. He says he contacted the CFC regarding their legality. Someone post the link for the nervous nellies.

It would be a good idea for users to carry a copy (yeah, more 'Papiere, bitte ....') of rcmp Bulletin #72 (2014-12-08) when transporting their AR 15's and .50 Beowulf mags.

Whether you are going to buy them or not, the more that are here and in the county the country the better IMO. It will keep prices more competitive and will help if the RCMP ever thinks to change their minds and reclassify these mags or amend the laws regarding mag restrictions. For those who don't like them because they are crimped, I personally won't be holding my breath to wait and see if mag restriction are lifted or raised any time soon
