40 S&W or 45 ACP

RJ what are your primary considerations?

I shoot both cals and in my area the 40 is a bit cheaper which is a consideration. But there is something about the 45ACP that is just nice to shoot.

What is your intended purpose? If it's for IDPA type shooting, I would recommend the 9mm in range kit. The .40 definitely kicks more. The .45 is bigger and the most expensive for factory ammo. If $ no object or if you reload, I like the .45...but in a 1911!

No interest in the Wimpy 9 mm sold every one i ever owned ! I sold my Colt 1911 S-80 45 acp :bangHead: need to replace it - I have a S&W MP 22 cal and its fit my hand nicely so i though i would get a Big Brother to it and i have 45 acp brass - dies - bullets so i guess i have made up my mine now - I just had a Hankering for a 40 S&W - really don't know why ! LOL :) RJ

Stick with your gut. Go with the .45. The .40 is a solution to a non-existent problem...at least in Canada. Go shoot someone elses, get your fill then go home and cuddle your .45.
I have a .40 and .45. I like the .45 waaay better!

I had one in 40, had being the operative word...
9mm or 45 if you must...
I haven't shot a 45 in this platform but I lean towards it in my other pistols, however it is expensive to feed (especially when compared to a 9).

I have one in 9mm, 40 and 45.

Do you have a big hand? If not, the 45 might be a bit fat in the hand for you.

My hand is medium large and the 45 with the small grip is perfect.

My 40 is the most a curate and the one I shoot the most. I handload so cost of ammo is similar for all 3.

I love the .45, it leaves big holes in paper lol. Its more fun to shoot for me. I dunno why. I dont shoot a lot anymore and with a 1911 I can be accurate without having to spend lots of time working on trigger control, as the 1911 has a very forgiving trigger. I just traded my .40 cal and bought a .45.

Not big Hands I liked my colt with the single stacked mags - fit my hand well - the S&W MP 22 fits me fine so how much fatter is the 40 or 45 over the MP 22 ? Thks RJ
