1911 parts are not "drop in" parts like a Glock.....they need to be fitted. when you go replacing or modifying 1911 parts without knowing how the gun works things can go real bad.

1911's, AR's, and 10/22's .......people can't just leave them alone. most mods are cosmetic and do nothing to improve the gun

resist the urge to pimp your gun. especially if you don't plan on keeping it forever because not everyone's gonna want the mods you think are cool. you're not gonna get your money back for all the mods you did on it, especially if they're irreversible.

a completely factory original unmolested older Colt 1911 is a rare thing and worth more than a butchered 1911 any day.

only one company makes a Glock.....Glock. almost every company out there has their version of the 1911.....they're not all equal. a lot have "improvements" from the original design that may or may not work. some have extractors that aren't tuned and have little or no tension. most come from the factory with bad magazines to begin with.

there's a ton of companies that make 1911 magazines. a bad magazine will ruin your day and many people will blame the gun

most of the 1911 bashers belong to the Glock fan club and have never shot a 1911 or if they did it was their buddy's 1911 that they butchered on the kitchen table with a dremel tool.

I'm not a Glock hater. I like both 1911's and Glocks. they both serve a purpose

Well said - objectively stated and addressed all the critical issues especially the cosmetic mods and pimping!!!! When working on ANY semi-auto pistol I've learned to first check out the ammo used, then the magazines before looking at the gun itself. You obviously know your 1911's! Good on ya!!!!

I see the point of the defensive carry people in the united states who say go buy a glock 19 for 500 bucks and have complete reliability and lots and lots of bullets, but all those arguments are pretty moot for paper punchers and sport shooters from Canada.

Try being an IPSC competition shooter travel to National and World events - at the outlay of $$$$$$$$ worth of travel expense and try to tell them "reliability is a moot point"... HELLO! AND the high level shooters are using 1911 "platforms"... and they WORK!

Top level guys (the ones with 1911s/2011s) are shooting major btw, the 40 is not that hard to control, but does not qualify for almost no recoil.
And yeah i get why guys would want glocks, to get my two lower end 1911s running (trojan by STI), the money spent and amount of work/tweaking is considerably higher than purchasing a ready out of the box glock. But the rewards are a gun that will shoot ultra reliably, accurate, and fast. Just requires patience getting there. Or buy a quality 1911.

Sorry that is incorrect. If you have decent magazines then yes, untill it gets dirty it will work fine. However, having decent magazines is a big deal with 1911s, most that come with the guns that you buy are not that good. I always end up buying Wilson Combat mags.
 
I have had a Springfield loaded x2 ( one stainless, one blued), a Colt Commander series 80, A sig sauer POW/MIA.

Only issues I had with any of them was mags, once you get decent mags your good to go. That being said, you still may get the odd malfunctions depending on how much you shoot. I found when i got to 400 rounds or more in one session that id get the odd failure. Probably due to the tighter tollerences of those guns.
 
I have 2 colt 1911s and a custom Para with a Wilson slide, the only issues I have had is when they get dirty. (Providing I use the right mags). Have a few mags that are real crap! Factory triggers on my Colts do leave a little to be desired but always reliable.
