Savage mark ii. Ejection issues

So I am having problems with my rifle. Every few shots, a round does not eject. Not only that but it jams quite tightly. Feels like my finger nail is going to break prying it out. Haven't had this issue before, and have almost always shot winchester ammo through it. The ammo I have been using when it started was winchester m22. Do you think that it could be the rounds leaving a residue that is causing it to stick. After I ran the bore snake through it it cycled nicely for like 30 rounds then started sticking again. If I don't fire the gun the rounds cycle fine. So I guess the question I'm asking is do you think it's a residue or case expansion causing the problem. Cases don't look any different on ones that get stuck and ones that don't.

I'd use a proper jag and patch with solvent and see how it works out. A bore snake isn't much of a cleaner on it's own.

I'd also suggest you try some other known good quality ammo and see if the problem persists.

The extractor is likely doing it's best but if the empties are sticking in the chamber like you describe then it just won't work out well. But just in case use a little dental pick or other needle like pick to clean the recess that the nose of the extractor fits into on the face of the barrel.
 
Lol forgot to mention that I did do a really good clean with solvent and jag. Just used the bore snake while in the forest when I didn't have the rod and solvent. Will check the recess to see if there is something in there
 
I had a Mark II with ejection issues as well. I contacted Savage Arms, explained the issue and they mailed up 2 new ejectors and worked great after replacement. No cost.
 
I have repaired a few .22's with bent extractors .had developed " burs" , I believe from bolt cycling / dry firing. On most I have pushed in the extractor and filed the burs on the bolt until it would spring out to its full range .
 
We're talking about extraction issues, right? Not ejection?

Cuz I had a problem with it not extracting the case from the chamber and it turns out that this is a common problem. Savage sent me a new one in the mail and it works fine now. The new one looks slightly different than the old one which means it's probably an engineering issue with the original extractor.

Sorry yes, extracting issue. When I clean it bullets drop right in. When it starts sticking, which is normally within the first 20 rounds, the bullets need to be pushed in and don't just slide in.

Call them in the US and they should send you one for free, like they did for me. It's a common enough issue and they seem to be aware.
 
I have one and have had no problems. A couple guys at our club have the stainless model and have had trouble with extracting the spent casing. Is yours possibly stainless?
 
I remember when every single round failed to eject in my savage mark ii. I took it home and realized I had the extractors in the wrong way.
 
Nope, not stainless. Gonna give it a cleaning and try a couple boxes of different ammo. Then if it is still doing it I'll replace the extractor.
 
I have a MK 2 with about 7500 rounds through

this has been my experience to fix the ejection issue

1. take off clip off bolt (firing pin + 2 extractors)
2. Clean the three slots where the Firing pin and extractor. (if you want and Be careful you can take automotive sand paper for clear coat very lightly clean the slot with the sand paper.)
3. Bend the spring clip sides inwards to tighten them up.
4. Put Firing pin then Spring clip in place. Do not put the 2 extractors on at the same time
5. Then from front of the bolt, slide down the extractors.

if that does work call savage for 2 spring clips and double them up

if that really doesn't work by then, call savage a ##### them out for a new gun at the point.

Sounds like very dirty ammo or possibly you're after cleaning and oiling you're leaving too much oil in the bore. Or something else to encourage a sticky buildup is occurring.

Or your rifle has a very tight match like chamber. My S&W Model 17 does this. 20 to 25 cylinders worth (as in 20 to 25 shots per chamber) and the new rounds become stiff to insert and eject. A few strokes of a short cleaning rod with a .22 bronze wire bore brush and all is well again for a while.

Did you change your cleaning and lubricating products recently?
