Not really sure.
I just got done running 880 rounds through mine without so much as a hick up. I did build it from hand selected parts from other rifles but still, when you get a good one, they run excellent.

How reliable is your SVT?
 
Mine came set on 1.5 when i de-cosmoed it.. i left it at 1.5 and only put 20 rounds of Non-corrosive MFS through it to function test. Ran fine no issues...I have since set it to 1.3 for the next time out and we'll see.
 
Both of my SVT-40's are pretty good. The only failures I've had is from over lapping the cases wrong. You can tell what gas setting both of them were used the most during the war by looking at the gas selector when its out. One is 1.3 and the other is 1.5. Both however work perfectly on 1.3 even with surplus. I shimmed the barrel shroud area of both of my SVT's and opened up the barrel channel so the barrel makes no contact with the wood and it shoots better than my Mosin as long as its not really hot. 3moa is its average but fairly often I get a 2" and a couple of rare occations, 1.75". Distance at 100 meters with 5 shots. Never worse than 4". Before the shimming and opening of the barrel channel, It was really bad. 6moa +. I would like to see how they would shoot with the rear of the receiver glass bedded. I don't have an issue with recoil. The SVT-40's recoil is pretty tame its just really loud.

Boy are they ever, especially the 6 port. You are correct the recoil is quite tame and very little muzzle climb. Mine loves the 1.3 setting as well.
 
Mine is fine now that I got the chamber opening debured, first round I put through it fte. Once I got the shell casing out and quickly de burred it it's been smooth opperating since, it eats new Norc; MFS & surplus silver tip equally well. I find it easy to strip and clean as well.

Yeah mine loves the surplus ammo. I also agree that these are easy guns to work on and strip so long as you have the proper tool kit.
 
All mine are reliable. However, the way I use them is a far cry from ww2 eastern front combat. Would hate to have to clean one in a frozen or muddy foxhole, one slip and its over.
 
I own 4 and have shot 2 others and generally these guns run great for what they are. 75 years old with 40 year old ammo 4-5 inch group. I'd say that is pretty respectable IMO

I think the springs were fine,.... the action couldn't extract the casing from the chamber fully, id have to beat on the charging handle to break it free lol garbage! I ordered a 1940 SVT from Corwin and all was good, now I have a spare trigger group to experiment with :) plus an extra mag ;)
