Shorten PAL Approval Times

im a new member of The Grange (at target sports). here is how the process works for that club (im not sure how it works for other clubs).

i paid for membership on october 22, 2014. the next available seat for my CLSC was on december 20. i completed all three of my probationary shoots the following week. my membership started when i completed my final probationary shoot. i was allowed to bring non-restricted (.22LR rifle) to shoot there until my ATT arrived which took 3 weeks.

Ah I see, I guess if I am buying a pistol first perhaps they will hold off my membership until I receive my ATT in the mail, just so that I dont waste the 3 weeks in between. I am also planning to get a membership with the Grange, Target sports is the closes I live about 15 min away.

Thanks for the info!

No - No of course not - im sure what we are told is the truth,
but lets just chuckle together again shall we.

92.3 % ......... .... ........... bwahhahahahahahahaha
Don't get me wrong, I am sure the fact that I sent my results after submitting invalidated me from the results.

My update: Took my course on Oct 25/26 for RPAL. Waited for results like my instructors told us to. Sent Application in on December 1st express post with signature required. Miramichi received my application with results attached on December 3. Today (Jan 7th) It appeared on website stating that the application has entered the initial processing. I'm getting excited now!!!

Mine changed to issued today.. with one of my references contacted on Thursday of last week (feb 12th)..so to recap:

Course taken on Oct 25/26 for PAL/RPAL
Miramichi received my application with results attached on December 3
Jan 7th It appeared on website stating that the application has entered the initial processing.
Reference called Feb 12th
Showed up as issued on Feb 17th.

Not sure of the "day count" but i've been patient to say the least..lol.. no phone calls to anyone, a clean boring record.. I just waited.. so probably next week i could see it... figure i waited this long, whats a few more days....

What was the date it was logged on the website?
They got mine on the Dec 17th and posted about a month later (I would assume yours probably says around Dec 7th).

If I get mine by end of Month then that pretty proves the idea that if you put in your results quickly after the appliction number is created it doesn't really affect your wait time.

Even though I am not planning on calling them again until the end of the month, damn straight I am checking every day online.

My timeline for my RPal:

- Application received on 8 Dec (test results included)
- showed up online 11 Jan as processing
- read on the site about the delays so I decided to not to worry about it for awhile
- checked last wknd as to the status online - still "Processing"
- phoned in today and asked as to the status of my app, and they told me to have one of my refs phone in.
- ref phoned in 1/2 an hour later (he works with me so just had to pop my head in his office and ask him to call in)
- checked online an hour after after my ref called in - approved!

73(?) days total

Where are you from?I wonder if the point the references call the scan can go in? Otherwise i dont know how after an hour you got approved, i was at a week since my reference called on friday. That said i am only on day 62.
Maybe i will call tomorrow and ask about the process rather than my status.

So here is something confusing. I have a restricted POL. I applied for Restricted and non-restricted PAL, the fee should be $80. The charged my Credit card $40. The fee should be either $60 for non restricted or $80 for restricted. Not sure why they charged me $40.
Time Line is:
Completed the PAL and RAPL course on Dec 21, 2014.
Application online Dec 29, 2014. All paperwork with proof of exam marks was submitted with application.
$40 charged to credit card on Jan 19, 2014
The application is still sitting in completed initial processing and now in progress for over 5 weeks.
Called twice, both times told to call back in 2 weeks.
The lady said I may have to wait another 30 to 90 days and they will still call all the references even though I have safely owned a handgun for 20 years.
Confused about the $40 charge instead of $80, I guess I better call them.

Ontario. That said, my app was very straight forward, and I have also have had a pal for quite some time. Not sure If that makes any difference or not.

As for their process....no idea. Personally, I'd wait out.

Course complete...Oct 15, Application mailed....Oct 17, Recived by RCMP....Oct 29, PAL in my possession....Feb 14!!!
3 months and 2 weeks processing, but I got it now.......let the spending begin, or continue (depends whatch'er talkin bout!)?

The existing PAL may be why. I will wait but I will try to remember when I call to ask.

Hi guys, I've been waiting for quite some time in "completed initial processing, now in progress" for R/PAL.

It's been 77 days since the "received on" date (dec. 2)

None of my references have been contacted. I've called in twice now to check on it and if there was any missing info, etc., but they just tell me they're backed up.

Is this normal? Should I have my references call in as suggested in the OP? Should I call and let CFC know before doing that?

Getting pretty frustrated waiting this long...

Yes, if they have confirmed they are ready for your references, have your references call otherwise you wait until they get around to calling. So if they haven't told you call and ask. Probably about 3 weeks back you could have had them call
