Hi guys, anyone shooting one of the more recently produced 1895's?

I handled one today and was overcome by gun-nutitis. I have honestly never felt that a rifle fit me as well.


I'm wondering if anyone has had any negative experiences with these before I go ahead on my first high end rifle purchase. This model seemed to cycle smoothly. The only issues I can see are that replacement parts may not be available, any breakdowns common to this model?

The model 95's made by Miroku for Browning and Winchester are very well made & reliable. I've handled and fired a few in .405 Win and 30-06 and they were accurate enough for the sights, well balanced & fun to shoot. I would be first in line for one if they chambered some up in 7.62x54R which was the most chambered round in the original '95.

Go for one in '06 if you want the best bullet selection. The .405 is great for cast boolit fans.

Would be pretty cool if Norinco made us nuts up a batch of russian musket clones, complete with stripper clips. That would be a classy way to burn through some surplus.

I'm guessing most of the rifles that made it to the Spanish Civil war didn't survive the conflict.

The one I was looking at was in the unmentionable caliber. Another nickel or stainless model with gold inlays was avaliable in .405 for an arm and leg. I'm more interested in a good hunter than a cast bullet plinker at this venture. Not that the .405 isn't capable of hunting just about anything.
 
I have one of the Winchester saddle ring carbines reissues in 30/06 and love it.I ve had the rifle version but prefer the carbine for hunting.The Winchester versions have the tang safety and though I would prefer it didn t it does help to unload the gun more safely and doesn t detract from it s overall looks. It also comes factory drilled and tapped for a receiver sight .I wish Winchester would do a Canadian version in 303.The carbines in 303 use to be real popular up here years ago.

I've had 2 of the Brownings as well and was very impressed. I once shot a Cormorant in the neck at 250 yards of hand. Probably the best shot I've made in my life and probably a bit of luck involved. Great rifles.
 
I have a 1912 95 in 30/40 Krag which my father absconded from me.

Also, a new 95 in 30/40 which has pretty decent wood on it.

Very nicely made IMO.

Hasn't 303 fallen off in popularity up here? Seems a lot harder (or at least more expensive) to get.

303 British or 303 Savage?

Both are hard to get commercially, but still popular. I pick up a few boxes of 303 British Winchester White Box every now and then so I can play with my Enfield. Reloaders will buy 2 boxes of 20, and get 200-400 shots out of them with reloads.
 
The modern Winchester 1895's were made in the Miroku plant and are first class. I very much doubt you will ever need any replacement parts. I had an original 1895 that was over a hundred years old and chambered in 38-72. It was still working perfectly with no hint of any replacement parts required. You should be good for at least a hundred years. I did a lot of target shooting with mine and bagged a nice doe at 135 yards with it as well. Here's a photo ....

I've shot a miuko 1895 for quite a while now. That having been said I've stripped the browning bling off the wood and put a 26" Pac Nor barrel in 375/06 improved on with a number 21 receiver sight. I couldn't tough the plain 06 cal or the jpan insignia on the pipe. As for action function it's 10,000 times better than their BLR. What I mean by that is it actually has a trigger, unlike the BLR. I think I seen one time at the range a guy firing a Jpan BLR had to tie a rope from the trigger to his buddies car and get him to head into town till he heard the bang. The 95 triggers are OKAY.
Geez I answered You plus got out another Anti BLR rant in the same post. Not bad huh
