As a newly minted PAL holder, I ventured out last night in search of making the elusive, first in-store purchase.
It was a huge success I'd say, I managed to walk away with a beautiful Savage Mark II TRR-SR w/ AccuTrigger/stock .22lr. Found some glass to put on and a couple boxes of some winchester HP ammo (i hope it plays well with the savage!)

So, just to make sure I do all that should be done before I take it out...I know I should completely strip it down and clean it, grabbed some G6 for that purpose. I'm just wondering if I should be totally tearing down the bolt and everything or just give the barrel a few passes and clean up the bolt head. The booklet that came with the rifle doesn't really say how to dissemble the bolt itself, just how to remove it.

Would also love to hear from any other TRR-SR owners on how they like it!

Try YouTube

That was where I went to "tear down" the bolts for CZ's.

I based my comment on the rich use of cosmoline on CZ's.

With Remington 700's there is generally an oil rich environment of oil in the bolts.

In any event . . . YouTube will eventually be your friend in time.

This was the rifle I wanted for my first as well. Ended up with an SKS and a NS522. Unfortunately with school I haven't shot either of them yet. Hope you enjoy your new rifle, let us know how it goes.

I agree with super7. I wouldn't disassemble the bolt, just clean its outsides. Most .22 bolties like to run dirty, so just clean it when accuracy finally starts to drop off (i.e., after many hundreds of rounds). The Savage Mk II rifle series, in my experience, are very reliable, very accurate, and will digest any ammo you can stuff into them without complaint. Great choice, by the way!

I wouldn't disassemble the bolt. Just clean/lube it as best you can and clean the out the barrel.

^This. Also check the mag well. You sometimes find oily dirt/debris in there. As super7 says, clean the bolt, the bore, make sure there appears to be a thin coat of oil on the moving parts...you should be good to go. Some would suggest removing the rail, and reinstalling using a small drop of thread locker (like loctite) before reinstalling...but I've yet to have a scope base of any kind come loose. Other than that~don't buy 22 ammo in bulk quantities until you know what your rifle likes. They all have preferences.

Congrats on the PAL, and new purchase!

Thanks for the pointers all! Got it all cleaned out and bore sighted last night. Ready for rang day tomorrow!
I will say, I was very impressed with the quality of the tri-rail that came with this rifle.

good choice with the savage. you will enjoy it. if you want to see what that gun can do toss some sub-sonic ammo and look at the groups. they are VERY good shooters out of the box. also, in my opinion the savage trigger is the best by far of any stock unit.

now you need to grab a 10/22 and you will be good to go.

welcome to .22's
