So I'm gonna be getting a Norc M4 soon and I've been looking around and noticed many people saying to just cut the front sight for a low profile gas block and to cut the Delta ring as well. Now how many rails are there that I could use with this method?

I think that most people that try to take off a norc gas block end up bending there punch to get out the pins

some are lucky and get the pins out
some get frustrated and cut it off
some cut off the sights and round the corners and if it does not fit round out the corners some more till it fits
then if you need to remove the barrel nut just the gas tube roll pin has to come out

but if you have to change the barrel nut (free float the barrel/ special barrel nut )the gas block/sight has to come off

not sure of the norc gas block size .625 ???

If you want to use a free floating hand guard, you have some options.

There are a few FF handguards that have a cutout on the top rail to support an A2 gas block. Depending on the brand, you may have to remove the barrel nut in order to use theirs. Some may use the standard barrel nut that's already there. You will have to remove the delta ring assembly.

The other option is to cut off the sight post and bayonet lug as mentioned above then remove the delta ring assembly and buy a FF handguard that uses the standard barrel nut. The new handguard should slide over the chopped off gas block so you won't have to remove it.

Another option is to cut off the A2 sight post and bayonet lug, use a tapered punch (NOT a pin punch or you will just break your punches) and hammer out the tapered pin holding the block in place. Yes, the pins are tapered so they can ONLY be removed in one particular direction. You can remove the barrel nut and delta ring assembly and install whatever brand handguard you like. You can buy a new low profile gas block that either clamps on or held in place by screws BUT that chopped off A2 gas block will be more secure due to the taped pin holding it in place. It'll save you $$ not having to buy a new one too.

If you decide to buy a new low profile gas block, you'll want a 0.750" one.

Here's a pic of someone's chopped down A2 gas block.

There are ways to get the FSP off without hammering on the pins but Trinimon is right, using the existing pinned gas block and cutting it down will give you the most secure and imo most reliable setup.

Because they try and punch out the pins using the same size punch. When you need to use a much larger to start ( dis log it ) then a tapered punch. Also theyre tapered so meaning will only come out 1 way.

My dominion arms da556 has a .625 NOT A .750 so I would think the norc would be the same. I trusted people on the net and bought a .750 and ended up wasting $55

wouldn't you just measure the diameter with a caliper? I want to do this to my bushmaster heavy barrel

.625 is the pencil barrel size.

Regular barrels are .750... Which are 99% other then HBARs

Probably true, I didn't have a caliper so I just went off what people were saying on the net. Imagine my surprise when I found out that not everything I was reading was correct... Heartbroken I tell you...my fault really I should have borrowed one and checked. I just got lazy. Anyone want to buy a brand new NEA .750 gas block?? Lol

Don't worry I bought one and it wasn't drilled fully thru for the gas tube. Cost much more :(

mine came off but took alot of work. I did bend a few punches but it eventually came out.. took alot of brute force. The barrel nut was alot torques on by king kong. I replaced my gas block with a .75

Barrel nut should be only less then like 70 ft lbs. Just need a longer bar.
