Smallest, lightest 9mm?

Smallest and Lightest might snap more. Best bet is to head to a range and bring this person with and see if people have different guns to try. Then buying a gun only on the soul purpose of trying to get them into.

The smallest non-prohib would be a HK P7 PSP/M8 if your prepared to pay the $ for one.
Exquisite engineering and quality and very reliable and accurate.

Supposed to be superb, but good luck finding one and make sure you got $2000-3000 (or whatever they go for now) to pay for it.

^i think I saw one for 1600 not long ago and I was seriously considering it, then it was gone! Must have been a good price after all.

The sig P239 is a really good one.

S&W SD9 vs 226 Elite. Smaller and lighter, trigger on SD9 is awful though. Recoil is more in the SD9 as well.

Can't say enough good things about the Sig SP2022, not the smallest or lightest but it's smaller than full size. I have big hands but it will fit small ones perfectly. Did I say it's only $499-569 for one of these? Awesome pistol, DA/SA, 4.5 lb SA trigger, great ergo's, shoots like a boss. It's probably the best pistol that nobody ever talks about.

S&W M&P 9mm. Small backstrap. Gun is quite light. Cheap and reliable.

I would suggest the M&P also.

The thing I don't get is the OP says he has small hands, has a 226, but only mentions the weight as an issue. If you can easily manipulate a 226, your hands are at least "medium".

A 226R with Hogue rubber grips is 804 grams. A Norinco NP34 with Hogue rubber grips is 728 grams, 90% as heavy as the 226R.

Boberg is pretty sweet to shoot so far. And super tiny for Canada.

Too small for me. When my 2 fingers are hanging off the bottom it messes up my shooting. I had a P239 and even with my hands, it felt comfortable with a single stack grip and pinky extension. (Threaded barrel needed for CDN length.)

Looking to get someone into pistols and am wondering what is the smallest and lightest 9mm you can get? They have small hands and find my 226 and 1911 too heavy. Yeah I know recoil will go up with lighter but they don't mind the kick. I'd be ok with something with a snub barrel like a 229 if the overall size and weight is low.

Any suggestions

Edit. Want restricted only, not prohibit.

Thanks

Lightest you can get LMAO!

Folk, thanks for all the replies

I'm leaning towards a polymer or one of the super compacts. If I could get a small 1911 in polymer (I know I'm going to hell just for saying polymer 1911) I'd go for that. Don't really have a budget, the Boberg price did not make me blink, but the H&K might....oil is at $52 you know.

The P239 is nice and small but almost as heavy as my 226. I had been leaning towards a Glock 19, The PPQ and Boberg are something that was not on my radar...would love to get my hands on one to try the size. Would definitely be a conversation piece at the range. Too bad Wanstall's is over in BC.

Glock 19 = 23.65oz
PPQ = 25.6oz
Broberg XR9-L = 18.5oz
S&W SD9/40 = 22.9oz
S&W M&P = 24oz
Glock 26 = 21.7oz
Ruger SR9 = 26.5oz
Ruger 9e = 27.2oz
HK USP = 26.5oz
HK P7 M8 = 27.3oz
SAM Sigma 9mm 1911 = 33.5oz
Sig 1911 = 41.6oz

Unsure if the weight is such a big deal as usually the lower the weight, the more the recoil. I find better fit and ergonomics is usually the trump card. Shoot a bunch and see what you like.

Normally low weight equals more recoil, but the Boberg seems to recoil no more than a Glock 19... Not sure what wizardry they employed.

Questar sells them... Are they near you?

^^^This right here, M&P 9 and the small backstrap. My wife has small hands, when she shoots my m&p she uses the small backstrap. I use the medium one, I find it very lightweight but not too light. We both like it a lot.

My confusion. I'm not looking for me. Trying to introduce someone to the range who finds my 226/xdm/mk iii all too big to grip and too heavy to handle for an afternoon. Looking for a light, compact pistol that is not prohibit is a struggle.
