"Lever Arms lost their import license a while ago, and the ones they have in stock are second picks from dealers who can still import."
Well say what you will about how they service is, or used to be, that is just an outright lie.
There is a thread over in green/black shotguns all about the shotgun they developed and imported.
As far as I'm concerned, there are only two types of SKS rifles: collectors and shooters. Collectors should not ever be shot, and shooters should be bought as cheap as possible. I'd buy the cheapest Russian I could get my hands on.

I have two collectors and I shoot them on a regular basis. However, I don't fire more than 100 rounds in a single sitting. It doesn't make sense to not shoot it since one of my Lee Enfields is worth 4 of those SKS and yet I still use it.
There are SKS rifles in this country worth $4000+
Do you want to buy some nice property in Florida? Lol, got a beauty of plot of land.
I would recommend you order from Corwin-Arms or Westrifle instead of going to Lever. Or from Weimajack here in the Equipment Exchange.
All three of them have forgotten more about SKS's than most of us will ever know, and are reputable enough to only sell good quality examples.

Im going to be purchasing a SKS the same day my PAL arrives(hopefully soon...)
Im looking for a shooter as I intend to use it to learn how to shoot a rifle so see myself putting many 1000's of rounds through it.
So what should I be looking for? newer/older model? refurbished or not refurbished?
Will be purchasing from Lever arms in Vancouver so will be able to go in person to look through the stock so want to know what I should be looking for.
Just pay Tradex Canada $179.00 for a nice Russian SKS delivered to your door. Then clean it thoroughly, test fire it. Best SKS deal in Canada now.
The SKS was free shipping end no tax?? I cannot see this deal on their website.
You wouldn't want to get drunk for the first time with Kelly's wine
Or hopefully not have ### for the first time with a skank
so why would you want your first gun to a slutty SKS??
YOU DESERVE BETTER. Get yourself a nice rifle first. Just so you
know that guns can shoot "groups" , and not "shotgun type patterns"
After you get a nice rifle and then a nice shotgun THEN get a lead hose.
just my completely biased viewpoint
Tradex is $199 plus tax and at least $35 in shipping $179 may be they were but few months ago. Guys keep in mind that nowadays we have 2 sorts of SKSs on the market. Whatever is left from Ukrainian supplies, meaning generally good rifles original nice blueing and Recent import of BBQ painted guns from Molot
