I voted .300win mag but wonder why you have no 30 caliber flavor in your mix. I think the EVER versatile .30-06 spfd or .308 win would be "just right" in your safe. I have as my "five gun battery" - .223 rem , .30-30win (for shytes and giggles) , .308win, .300 win mag, and .375 Ruger.

Considering what you already own, I'd sell the Whelen and get a 280.

Sorry I gotta keep the Whelen....took me a long time to find this one....NIB 7600 factory carbine with straight comb stock...after the one I bought from you SC and foolishly sold I wanted another....I'm gonna keep what I currently have and just add some extras...:)

I do kinda have a 30-06, a rem 760, it's my dads, but he doesn't really hunt anymore. Just coyotes that bother his deer. Also a pre '64 32 win model 94...both of them generally hang out in my safe unless he asks for them...

OK ........ sell the 375 and buy a 280 then.

You seem to refer to the 760/7600s, so why don't you just collect up the rest of the rem pumps and there will be no caliber gaps.
Worked for me!!!!

I had to go 7 RM, .280 would have been a close second...

Personally I would go;

.243 & .308 & .358

OR

.25/06 & .30/06 & Whelen

Keep it in the family, along with grampa (.375 H&H)...

Good morning fellas, lots of good feedback here for me to ponder. Thanks. So at this point ,the only gun in the rack that might go down the road is my PG Laminate SS BLR 358 win. I purchased it as a fill in when I didn't have the Whelen. So according to your votes so far it's the .280 and 7mm mag in the lead. With the swede, 270 wizzum, and 300 winny in 3rd. The final caliber decision will depend on which can be factory purchased in or if I decide on a custom build, which then it don't matter. The gun will be a bolt action...cooper,sako,kimber, etc or a custom...but that's another thread...
