Hello,

Looks like I might actually have some time to shoot this summer :dancingbanana:

I've been wanting to get into shooting competitively for a while, took the black badge course a couple years ago but didn't do anything with it.

What shooting comps are there in the area? I see that Barton's has a couple of three gun comps a year which looks like fun. Is there anything on a more regular schedule? Seems like there used to be IDPA twice a month or something?

Thanks!

Thanks Stevo that helps alot.

I've been just researching shot shell caddies and gear, for the matches around here what is typical as far as round count? Just trying to figure out which shell caddies and how many mag pouches, etc.

Jay,

Your best bet is to come out and see what others are using before you sink a bunch of cash into gear. We have many folks who start out stuffing spare rifle mags and shotshells into pockets and dump pouches.

There's not really a "typical" round count. Some stages may only require one gun, some all three. You might need 8 shotshells on a stage or 25.

Steve

Edit: We suggest that shooters be able to carry at least 30 rounds pistol, 30 rounds rifle, and 25 shotshells. Not necessarily all at the same time.;)

FORT ST JOHN 3 gun match schedule for 2015 will be

May 9th, June 20 July 18 and Aug 8

As posted above by stevo we follow the rules MP3G divisions and rules so that each match is the same as far as divisions, scoring and rules..... I believe grande prarie is going to use the rules this year as well.

The only for sure piece of equipment I recommend to buy Is 10 round magazines for your gun, otherwise everyone is different....

Thanks, this is exactly what I'm looking for.

Perfect I have lots of 10rd mags.

Make sure you note the "at least" part. I've put out as many as 24 shotgun targets on a stage. :) They're total figures, too, including what's in your gun.

I never carry more than 30 pistol, usually 40 rifle (coupled mags in the gun and two spares) and shotshells as required.

Like stevo my loadout is 4x 10rnd rifle mags + 2x pistol mags in dbl taco pouches on a hsgi small ao chest rig, then 2 more pistol mags on belt along with a maxpedition dump pouch I put my shot shells in loose.

Most competitive shooters run everything on a belt.... It's faster then chest rigs, I am competitive by nature but am old and fat so chest rig works for me and I am a middle of the pack shooter anyway, the younger guys we have here are fast and they are getting faster, shooting smarter and buying go fast guns.

We have very good group of guys here

We had one guy need close to 80rnds one time to finish a Texas Star stage.... People where giving him magazines nonstop..... We also have a great selection of props, some great stage designers and a dedicated crew that make these events happen.

87 was the number.
