.260 Rem Load Recipes

I have been loading TTSX 120's with 48.5gr of H4831sc under it with Rem brass and Winchester primers. Can't really comment on its performance on game as I have only shot one doe in the head at 20 yrds with it. She was shot in the rear quarter by one of our group members and needed to be put out of here suffering. But seem to shoot nice on paper.

In the Barnes manual, for the 120 gr. TSX they list only 6 powders ( AA2700, Vit N550, IMR & H 4350, Hunter and RL19). Unfortunately, I don't have any of them, and secondly most are a full cartridge full of powder. My goal would be to be around 90 - 95% capacity and use either Varget or H4831 SC. Any comments on whether or not these would be suitable.
thanks in advance.

From what I've read on the 260 the target guys are about the only ones using 4831sc with 140's, they got to put lots in there to get to velocity and there a bit on the hot side and compressed.
I'd try the varget with the 120's first and H4350 if ya can find any, seems to be the most recommend in the 260.

N160 takes less case capacity, 41.5gr in my 260 (29.5" barrel) gets 139's in the 2750fps range and lots of room to spare.
Hybrid 100V would probably be pretty good too being in the middle of H4350 and H4831, if its even possible to find.

What do you find the best 6.5 hunting bullets are? I use 130 barnes tsx in front of 42gr of H4350 seated 0.050 off the lands. How do you guys like the Sierra game kings? I'm currently using a 700sps blueprinted with a 24" Shilen Barrel built by Dennis Sorensen. I bought it off another GN and I love it. I'd like to develop a solid 140gr hunting round for larger game. Thanks gents.

I have had great results with the Tikka and 140 g game kings and H4350
Considered this a fine deer load

120 g TTSX and H4350, loaded warm, if I needed a spare rifle on several elk hunts
Have not used it yet on elk
Shots would be chosen with care...

Thanks Ruger,

I'll try and get my hands on some and give them a go.

You folks should look into IMR7828 loads. That powder made my 6.5x55 T3 look very interesting with significantly higher velocities but pressures well within the confines of the T3. The 6.5x55 and the 260 Rem are kissing cousins.

With my 260:

46 - 48 grains H4831 with 125/130 grain bullets

46 - 47 grain RL19 wtih 120/125 grain bullets

43 grains +/- H4350 with 130 grain bullets

Shot an elk broadside with 130 grain TSX from my .260 and it dropped in its tracks.

For hunting I like the Remington 140gr. bulk bullet. Killed a pile of deer (20, maybe) and my daughter shot two young (800 pound) buffalo. One shot is usually enough. They work great on things you are going to eat. I had a epic FAIL with a 125gr. partition. There was one entrance wound, 5 exit wounds. Had to throw away most of the front of a whitetail.
