Sako TRG22 Loads

it's a TRG : will be sub MOA with hunting rounds or surplus ammo ;-)

Mine likes 44gr of Varget behind 175 SMKBT in Lappua brass but I get only 2550 fps out of the 18.5 barrel. It means subsonic at 950 yards.
Still shoots 1000 yards very pleasantly.
For F class, I'd try 155 Palma as fast as possible.
Love my TRG.
 
I'd second the vote for using 155gr...if it's good enough for the FTR Palma 'boyz', it must be good enough to consider.
I would suggest picking up a couple of boxes of Sierra, Lapua, and Bergers....at least one of these should work well in your particular tube.
Do a little load development to find the high node with the pill of your choice....sit back....relax....and just worry about reading the wind!

This has been my go to round as well for my 26" TRG 22, I usually run a 2.900 OAL with this round. The TRG has a nice long mag factory mag, I can load both my mags with 2.925 OAL round and they feed nice.
 
Have you tried looking at the Lapua Scenar 155 ...they BC is similar ( higher if you look at G1 published BC ) than the 175 SMK . You can obviously drive them faster than the 175s

You have to look at the Scenar 155 next to typical 155 / 168 etc....they are freaky long..longer than the 175Gr SMK . If you google, you can see why....lots of empty space

Not sure if the "L" version is better than the std . I just picked up a pile of them from Hirsch to compare . They are supposedly made to tighter standard than the regular Scenars

At any rate, whatever projectile you settle on, do your self a favor and go with Lapua ( std primer pocket ) brass . Far nicer brass than anything out of Rem / Win / Fed / LC

All my 308 loads use Varget and CCI BR2

Also, invest in some bushing dies and micrometer seating . Much easier with micrometer seater when playing with the COL . As already mentioned, you have the flexibility of much longer COL than std with the TRG22

I think it good enough for Palma "boyz" because they are restricted to that weight. If they had the choice I would venture they would choose heavier high bc projectiles.
 
Well I did a ladder test tonight with 175gr Bergers and Varget ,virgin laupa brass. I started at 42gr and went to 44.5grs in .5 increments. 225 yards, gusting 15kph crosswind ,prone on a bipod. 44.5 grouped 3rds in 1.136" and i rushed it as the sun had set and it was getting harder to see. I just neck sized them with .002 neck tension and will test them tomorrow with 44.5grs on the bags. Thanks for the input Gents.
 
If you can find some, try the Berger 185gr Hybrids. That's what I'm running over 44.5gr Varget, Lapua brass and CCIBR2s. Very good results.
 
Forget all suggestions above.... seriously... forget them.
Everyone whos anyone is shooting Berger 185 Jugernaugts in FTR with Varget.
Most of them are using small primers in the summer time but don't expect them to shoot well this late in the year. Small primers don't have the umph for cold weather.

I might just be too old, but I'm still using large primers year round. I'll be dammed if 'm going to suggest that I lost a match because of the size of my primers.
