Wow - quite some pieces of history. At quite the prices.

But thanks for this. I'll be sharing this thread with the misses. Will make my current firearm financial fixation look like peanuts.

I've said I before, and have no problems repeating it now:
But I'm on the 'newish' side of being a firearm owner, and enthusiast.

So I'm wondering what's the deal here? What's so special about Ingliss, and why are these so pricey?

A diamond Inglis with 60%ish decal on a tangent slide.

I honestly don't think that price is out of line. Might be a bit rich for some people, doesn't mean it isn't worth it in today's collector market.

Just my opinion.

Yep. Just like a $312000.00 Ferrari F12berlinetta, I don't have the means to own one, but can appreciate and lust after pieces such as these.

Gaah I wish I could find out what happened to my uncles. My aunt gave it away right before I got my restricted. It was absolutely mint with proper canadian holster and mags.

Inglis' were only made in 1944 and 1945. And they're few and far between with the decal. Gun Broker is a U.S. auction site. Like all auctions, prices get nutso.
"THE BEST CONDITION INGLIS IN THE USA 9mm" Sad the guy thinks that. Seen 'em in better original condition at TO gun shows. Not recently, of course.

Interesting stuff.

A few thoughts;

The first Inglis with partial decal is a nice example but extremely overpriced. The decal is really not amazing on that one and better examples definitely exist in Canada and USA.

The tangent site Inglis Diamond is interesting, although I'm surprised a T series serial number has a tangent sight. It's also strange that it has a MAB decal, most were thought to be gifts. I will check Clive Law's book later and see if this one is listed in there.

The 'EX2' pistol in my opinion is highly suspicious. I'd need to see more quality photos but it could likely be a complete fake.

Regards,
-Steve

I know it's been...around 12 or 13 years, but SIR had an Inglis the same as the 1st one for 300$ and the decal was 100%. Wow, quite the price jump.

Of course Breda Garands were 200$ as well.....

Oh goodness. That'd keep me awake at night.

It still bothers me. I'll find it some day...
The only Inglis I have now washes and dries clothes!
There was also a polish Radom vis with "ROZYK" carved into the bottom of the left grip panel if anybody has it. It had original issue holster with 2 mags. I'm pretty sure he brought it back from Europe. Played lots of poker!

The T diamond is in Clive's book, but no photo or note that it's a CH slide.

Your thoughts on EX2 are the same as mine. Photos are too blurry to properly judge, but the serials almost look hand stamped vice engraved. There is a photo of EX3 in Clive's book, and it is engraved.

Here is an interesting Inglis with no serial number and 80% decal, that is about to come up for auction at James D Julia Inc:

Another James D Julia Inc Inglis:

They are both estimated to sell for $2-3000

There are also some very rare 1911 pistols including a new condition/unfired Singer (estimated $50-100k)

The first pistol at James Julia auction is most likely a lunchbox gun, not all that rare and typically not too expensive when they come around. Again, it is very odd that it has a MAB decal.

Something to remember is that some original decals were sold still on the strips, so it's hard to say what decals are original or re-applied. Some of these pistols I am suspicious of.

The second pistol at James Julia is just a common arsenal refinished CH Inglis with shoulder stock, not that rare or exciting. The tangent sites were a terrible idea on request of the Chinese.

-Steve
