Hey guys I have an opportunity to buy a Marlin 336C pre cross bolt in .35Rem later this week. I have not seen it yet but it is supposed to be in excellent shape. Any way my fear is trying to find .358 bullets and brass to reload with. Who carries this in Canada, specifically in Edmonton. Cant find it at Cabelas web site or wholesale sports web site.
I have a Winchester 94 in 30-30. I kind of would like a .35 Rem or should I just move up to a 45-70 and avoid the hastles of finding reloading components for the .35Rem ?
Thanks guys.

35 Remington brass isn't that hard to find, but the selection of flat nosed or round nosed .358" bullets is quite limited at this time. I ended up buying a good supply of the Speer 180gr flat nosed bullets, for my 356win, when I could not locate a source of the Speer 220gr flat nosed bullets. I found the 180gr Speers to be tougher than the 200gr Hornady round nosed bullets.

Yes, you should buy it. I have no dea where you can find components but Remington still loads 200gr Core-Lokts in 35Rem. Might be a good way to source brass. Your in edmonton so Give P&D a ring. See what they have.

Thanks guys, Just excited about the purchase, started having second thoughts because on paper it looks very similar to the 30-30 which I have in a Winchester. But the Marlin is pretty hard to find in a .35Rem. So I don't want to miss out on a great opportunity.

Who cares about components short term. BUY THE RIFLE. The reloading components will come together over time, you aren't looking for 25rimfire....

Actually Marlins in 35 rem, appear quite regularly in the equipment exchange, They are way easier to find than a Winchester in 356win. How did those 170
gr Sierras work in your 30-30.

Totally awesome stubblejumper. Hey thats not the same name as on AO.
As you know , since I got that Winchester94 I have fallen in love with levers. I recently picked up a Wincheter 88 in .308 which shoots fantastic. I wanted a Marlin but not another 30-30. When researching Marlins I found out about the .35Rem. I never cared for levers in the past so I never paid attention to them until this Win94 came my way. Now I am learning lots.

I was browsing through a gun shop only a few weeks ago and there, by itself on the odds and ends shelf, was a bag of new 35 Rem brass. Needless to say it's in the cupboard now, but components are not that hard to find really. One of my favourite rifles too, BTW.

A 35Rem really won't do much more for you that the 30/30 you already have other than be more cool. As mentioned factory loads and components can be harder to find. Really boils down to your "want" on this one cuz you really don't "need" it.

If you think you'd like a larger 35cal with a good step up from the 30/30, I'd look for a BLR 358Winchester. Pretty much have to handload this one, but bullets are no problem as you don't have to use RN and brass can be easy made from 308.

The .35 Rem is something different to play with, but won't do anything more for you... SC's recommendation of the .358 BLR is a good one, I like mine alot. But, you might as well go with a .45/70 right now... you will end up there eventually anyway.

Buy it. The .35 Rem. has significantly more wallop at woods ranges than ANY .30/30 load. An excellent killer for deer and black bears(or moose) out to 200 yards or so.

My one buddy glances at the muzzle and says, "What the fruck izz dat"?
Makes me giggle.

He duzz it 'gain with the .358win.

How come?

Why nawt?

Crazy beestrich.

Translated, this means 'a big mofo opening at the muzzle end' and an instant case of acute bore envy that must subsequently be addressed. No, not even I know what a Crazy Beestrich is. :)

Well guys, Tonight I bought a 1969 Marlin .35Rem. Absolutely stunning rifle, it is the closest thing to brand new. Came with all the reloading components and 2lbs of powder and 2 boxes of Hornady FTX bullets, a scope and Williams FP sight. Only 3 boxes of ammunition put through it. It was a great experience with the seller as well.
Thanks for all your feedback.
