Hi guys,

My Norc m14 is not playing nice. I received it last week and right from the start the rifle was a b*tch to ####. There are two small 'rub' points on the receiver (see attached pictures)
I've stripped it down and given it a clean and oil but it did'nt help the issue at all. Does anyone have any help as to an easy 'home' fix if this is a common Norc issue, or does it need a professional touch to tune this issue out?

Thanks for any help and input,

Sean.

The rub marks I see all seem to be normal. I'd try to isolate the problem by taking out the trigger assembly, removing the op. rod spring and trying the tilt test (Google "M1A tilt test" to get more detail). This should show you if there are interference issues in the op. rod or bolt movement. You can also test the trigger assembly by manually releasing and cocking the hammer on the assembly that you have removed.

Let us know what you find.

The wear point at the top edge above the right bolt lug is fairly normal to see on a newish rifle. A light treatment with a stone (not a dremel or file) to smoothen any burring would be acceptable. If it becomes a recurring thing after the initial break in and stoning... I would be concerned about a possible incorrectly hardened receiver... Not really common

as for the hard to #### thing..... fairly normal in a new rifle. grease her up and shoot her some and see if she smoothens out a bit.
remedies outside of greasing and firing?
hammer spring might be a tad long , stock fit might have the trigger and receiver too close together......

Thanks for the suggestions so far...I've just done the tilt test and everthing is good there. There's nothing catching on the mag release either.
One thing I did see after watching a couple of videos on youtube is that my op rod guide is pretty loose (has a mil of wiggle on it.) Not really sure if that would affect initial charging of the handle though?

Also worth mentioning is that it's only the initial charging that is stiff...once I've cocked it, it actions very nicely until the hammer is released and then its back to being very hard to charge. Unsure if there's any significance to this or not :)

I'm sending a PM to Tactical Teacher and hopefully he might have some ideas too, thanks for the suggestion.

have you fired it yet? how's the barrel indexing?

Edit: just re-read your post. So once the hammer is cocked back, the action is nice and smooth? And the tilt test is fine? That's normal. Just fire it.

ya sorry, my initial reply was confused LOL I read the other thread in MBR with a fellow having bolt /oprod issues , and when I replied here I kinda rolled the two threads into one when I made my reply LOL my bad for not paying closer attention. the second half of my post applies though hahaha
I fixed it

Sounds to me like it's just the normal resistance of the hammer spring during cocking. From what I've heard it's all good. Clean it, lube it and go shoot.

If the op. rod guide is loose you can tighten it by peening the op. rod guide boss on the barrel. Videos available on YouTube.

Thank you all for the help and to those of you that sent pm's....the rifle is back together and ready for my first trip with it to the range on Saturday. I'll be trying the "hockey game trigger job'' over the next weekend too...time to get this rifle tuned up a little :)
