No experience with CZ brand guns but a 28 gauge IMO is the ultimate grouse gauge. I used to shoot grouse with a 28 ga. Winchester 101 with 26" IC/M barrels and it was an awesome combination. I have kicked myself for having sold it many, many times!

The 28 is a great gauge for upland. I haven't used a CZ bobwhite though. I think maybe Cat has so maybe he'll chime in.

Used a 28 for quite some time for everything from grouse to pheasants and among the various shotguns a CZ mini bobwhite was one of my favourites .
I still have a 28 that I use and also a set of 28 adapters that are great in my vintage 12 bore guns Yup,
the 28 is great fo0r everything from fast flying chukers and ruffies to pheasants when it comes to upland birds!

My boy with his 28 gauge FAIR and a mess of pheasants and chukers- my Ugartechea 28 is on top of the dog box
12 bore Tikka 412S with Briley 28 tubes and a nice bunch of ruffed grouse
My son has only one gun for upland, his cherished FAIR 28 gauge, and he rarley misses with it!
The Bobwhite again with a pheasant and Tramp, Hornhead's Griffon

One of our CGN members who lives in Brooks likely kills more birds in a single season with a 28 gauge Fausti than a lot if guys do in five or ten years.
I sold that gun to my good friend Browning 525 about 4 years ago and he is nothing less than deadly with it!

I use Fiocchi Golden Pheasant for upland and Pheasant, and Fiocchi Target loads for skeet and sporting clays. The Golden Pheasant loads use nickel plated shot, which I much prefer, and they cost less than most of the Winchester and Remington loads. I purchase both by the case from Prophet River.

I hand load almost all my ammo regardless of gauge, but as stubbleljumper says, there is lots of 28 gauge ammo out there.
My son and I occasionally have used Factory loads from various makers over the years, but keep my cost down a bit by hand loading , and the 28 gauge load I use works very well for upland birds - the partridge on the truck were killed with the 28 were shot with skeet loads using Longshot powder and #9 shot running around 1,200FPS BTW. Nothing fancy.
I also load Bismuth and Nice Shot in all my gauges, even the 28.
For ducks and geese over decoys the 28 is awesome! Never tried steel however, just the heavier nontox hand loads.

Me I have always reloaded the 28ga since the mid 60's so make really what ever I want and as many as I want. Have an extremely large stash of components of all makes especially 28ga . Use mainly old style AA hulls and Rem STS for skeet and trap and pending what model 28ga I take upland I will use Federal hulls if I have a chance of losing them and AA if not.
Use mainly plated shot for my upland loads in No. 6 or 7 1/2
As far as machines have a MEC jr600, a sizemaster and a 9000 G in 28ga

Plenty of factory ammo, I've never had an issue.
I miss my 28 ga. However it was way to heavy to hunt with at 8.5 lbs.
If the house renos ever stop I might buy a new Ithaca 37 in 28 ga
The cz guns are nice but the case colourings aren't fantastic and the wood is usually plain. Ok for a field gun but a 28 ga sxs deserves nice wood

Quite often if you strip off that terrible chipping finish on the CZ's you get some pretty nice wood!
The case hardening is supposed to be bone and charcoal but I cannot confirm it.
it was a nice change from a coin finish however.

I don't have the bob white, but I do have the red heads in 410, 28, 20 & 12 and the ringnecks in 12 & 20 still looking for the 410 & 28 in that model. I have no complaints about the CZ's fit and finish IMO they stood up well to for me. I also prefer the 28 for grouse again in my not so expert opinion but the best upland bird gauge for me

I have one of the 28 gauge Ithaca Model 37 shotguns.Bought it new in 2009 and since then it has been the only 28 gauge(of all those that I have)that I have used in the field.Great little gun ,pure joy to carry and shoot in the field.
My 625 Feather weighs about 5-1/2 lbs, easy to carry all day.
I have used many 28's over the years... they are an excellent grouse gun... I sold my last 28, a Rem 1100 Sporting. Last fall I borrowed my son's CZ Bobwhite 20 gauge for an afternoon grouse hunt... I found it to be a well balanced, comfortable carry and easy pointing and swinging... At that price point, I can see myself picking up another 28.
