Best value spotting scope suggestions?

I use my heavy duty Camera tripod..it works well

^Myself I have the exact same setup for my Kowa. I've been putting off getting a decent table top tripod for quite a while now. It's time I did something about this. I like the Bushnell table top tripod, and I really don't like the Celestron(?) table top version, as it's too cheaply done and fragile IMO. I look at the online Vortex table top tripod and it sure looks a lot like the better Bushnell variant.

maybe

PS: For prone use of the spotting scope I have a Ewing tripod. It's kind of weird because it's meant to be used on uneven surfaces of grassy ground. Too awkward for any other use.

I went Kowa TSN-82 with the 25X LER eyepiece.

Jerry

Jerry how far out can you see .30 cal holes with that setup? I am looking at getting the Kowa 773 with the 25X LER TE20 eyepiece. Do they show up in the white at 500 yds or would I need the 60X for that?

And while we're typing about spotters, those legs that come with the kit aren't the best.
What's a decent set of legs worth now a days?
Be nice to get the spotter off the shooting bench and on the floor.
Princess Auto had some Kodak tripods in stock for about $50.00 they looked pretty good compared to some of the really spindly ones Ive seen.

I can invert my tripod for low level shooting if required very handy

Site sponsor CameraLandNY is a great place to at least start comparison shopping. I've bought binos and a spotting scope from them and been very pleased with the value for money and the service. The Minox MD50 spotting scope they sold me is also available in Canada and can usually be had for around $300. It might suit you if you want a compact spotter as much for field use as for the range, and you don't need more magnification - it's 16-30x50mm. Of course, if you can afford better go for it, but at that price I think you are unlikely to find better optical quality.
