things I need to know are freebore and twist rates, I have read that this makes a good 600 yard rifle with 90 grain up to 107 grain match kings.

With the surplus of 223 rem brass out there why is there no great following for this chambering? I have even seen it necked up to 25 caliber..........

pretty sure my forster bushing dies would accommodate a .268 neck, and if not that's pretty easy to fix, however I do see that Hornady makes 6mm-223 dies and they are pretty easy to get your hands on

Short and fat is accurate... long and skinny is not... at least, that was the trend when the PPC came on the scene and pushed this and similar wildcats to the curb.

Case volume similar to the PPC. Load and set up in a similar fashion. So, ideal for lighter bullets. Not enough case capacity to really keep up with the 6BR.

If looking for a fun 6mm, consider the 6XC. I am making mine from 22-250 and it is proving very accurate at 100yds with the 105gr bullet. 3000fps should be the norm so it will eclipse the 6 Dasher to the target. With a muzzle brake, it is as gentle as can be.

I expect it to work very nicely at LR.

I want one too th
ough i have never seen one in the flesh. Cooper makes them with a slow twist which i would not like i would want to shoot 90 gr. Bullets whats the point with lighter bullets. I dont want a ppc and if its any more accurate i dont really care im sure the 6x45 is plenty accurate although i wouldnt want it for long range.

Did a google for reloading data. With a 100gr bullet in a 24" barrel, top velocities are about 2600fps.
Cartridge evolved for AR-15 use. With long, heavy bullets, throating might be an issue with a reamer intended for chambering AR barrels. To preserve as much powder capacity as possible, the bullets would need to be seated out.
I have a 6x45 reamer, made up an AR barrel using a take-off SAKO .243 barrel. Have yet to install it. The twist in this barrel would not support the heavier bullets.

I had a rifle in 6X47 and it shot very well, I would guess the 6X45 will do the same. Barrel twist rate for these should be slow 1 in 13 or 14 and bullet weight approx 68gr. this should be good to approx 300mtrs. Longer range would be the 6BR or a touch larger case. THE 6PPC IS THE DOMINATE CARTRIDGE IN SHORT RANGE BR.
Enjoy

I have a Lt. Varmint in 6x47. A sleeved Remington built up by Hart. I am sure that a x45 would shoot exactly like the x47 with the same bullets.

In terms of powder capacity the round you described is about the same as a 6BR, but as Mystic said, short and fat tends to be better. Nobody can argue about the 6BR - it's a hell of a good thing.

If you want to do it for the cheap brass, it will work well, but ... as well as a 6BR... hmmm... I'm thinking not quite.

If you want to use the 6x45 rifle for long range competition you'll be behind the curve, but if you just want to hunt with it, you'll be more than pleased.

If you want to play F-class - you'll be in the open division chasing 7mm mags in the wind. Not a fair fight. You'd be better off with a 223 or 308 so you'll be in the FTR division.

For an AR15/Tactical rig I think the 6x45 would certainly be an improvement over the 223.

I run 5 rifles chambered in 6br and 3 in 6ppc..........not new to the 6mm game, just looking for something to hang off the front of that stainless tikka action, as of right now I am stuck with the 223 boltface, so rather then go back to a 223 why not spice things up a bit........

Yodave, I'd like to get a range report once you're done.
You'll be just the guy to compare vs the other 6mms

looking through the load data in the new Berger reloading manual and this thing has got some real ooompha......
now to see if my 223 bushing dies will accommodate the new neck diameter.........looks like there may be 3 of us going in on barrels and a reamer...........

revisiting this old idea, looking into a 12 twist barrel with a .269 neck, may or may not have to order a reamer depending on what they have on hand, found 3000 bullets all under 70 grains and the books are showing 3000-3100 fps. 6x45 is easier to tune then a .223 and is less effected by the weather changes that effect the .223................emailed the reamer guy for more info on availability............
