NEA in 7.62x39 - The Guinea Pig thread :)

You used quotation marks, this implies it was something I actually said. That is what is called a LIE

You must be joking. Did you miss the part where I asked if one could imagine the flurry of comments from the usual suspects if NEA had been the one who had released the mags instead of ATRS? Either you are being deliberately obtuse or you are so angry that you are having difficulty comprehending a simple hypothetical example.

Your position can only be supported by lies and personal attacks. Besides why would I be mad?. I have never dropped a single dime on an NEA product. But my norinco runs like a top, bolt is unbroken at more than 2000 rounds. And MY gas key and tube, being properly installed, doesn't show uneven wear either

Bummer...I was hoping against hope, that NEA had finally gotten their s**t together to effectively fill the 'lower price, but decent quality' niche that they are obviously seeking.
Being built to a price shouldn't have to mean that the product is going to self destruct under normal useage, Norinco products being the classical example.
I have reserved my (public) opinion on NEA despite all of their, played out in public, 'teething problems', but the content of this thread has convinced me to spend my $ elsewhere.
In this case, this conclusion was based on factual accounts and not here say.
The poor, and slow to come response from NEA regarding the OP's plight confirms their lack of interest in improving their reputation, and at the end of the day, that's all you've got.

7.62x39 platform in AR is tough cookie in general. I have a Daniel Defence upper with Lothar Walther barrel and bolt that it came with went kaput after about 600 rounds. LMT experimental bolt and SuperBolt are still holding strong but unfortunately none of them are longer made. Steel cased ammo is a culprit for sure. But that's the whole reason why people are interested in this - shoot cheap. I am pretty sure if I run brass ammo trough it will last forever but it will defeat the purpose. Romanian surplus is probably the best ammo out there to run in AR along with Russian stuff. I've never tried Czech in AR, but looks like it's a good quality ammo as well. From my personal experience - I am not running Norinco ammo trough it ever again, copper washed or lacquer. It expands too much in the chamber ----> stuck casing ----> stress on the extractor and bolt -----> broken components.
With the new NEA bolt I will run only trusted ammo and will report the result. As I mentioned earlier - about 800 rounds with LMT bolt the other day with no issues. ( so far)

I think some people in this thread have forgotten this (or mistakenly think is thread is about 556/223 ARs). As I mentioned, I'm looking forward to hearing how you make out with the new bolt.

^^^ This.
Hopefully we can learn something about the ongoing "testing" before admins have to lock down the thread thanks to superfluous rants. I'm not a tool maker nor a machinist and it is interesting to learn about some of the uniqueness related to the 7.62 x 39. If someone doesn't have an NEA in 7.62 then they should start their own thread.

Sincerely,

ok what have a I missed here, is the new style bolt NEA is using for the x39 not working? as is cracking within a few1000 rds or are people talking about the early 223 bolt.
im kind of confused by whats being posted.
I know they changed the firing pins, but is there "new" issues with the bolts.
bbb

This is all about x39.

Some people are getting confused and spewing on about .223 Don't be one of them. Read posts carefully, and discard the assumption makers and conclusion jumpers

Brownell has their own house brand 16" 7.62X39 barrel listed for $299 and it comes with a bolt, It just become much easier to build your own 7.62x39 AR for cheap ;)

Im at 700 rounds on my original bolt and no issues. Mostly Lcw and Romanian.
Had to switch my hammer spring in my Norc lower for a heavier one.
Nea sent me a new bolt along with the new firing pin that I requested (supposed to be longer).

Good to hear the LMT is doing well. That is the discontinued LMT Super Bolt, yes?
Wonder if SuperBolt will ever return? ....but it doesn't sound like it will based on what LMT has stated.

Sorry to hear the "newer improved version" to replace the "original improved version" hasn't arrived from the rifle maker.

Thanks for the updates.

Which manufacturer is lcw?
have you noticed a difference between corrosive and non-corrosive (if you've used both that is).

Correct.
I stopped running Norinco on this rifle based on this thread.
So far the bolt is holding up, ran it hard this weekend.
Zero ftf with my setup.

I was told and do believe that NEA uses 6061 T6 rather than 7075 T6 which is more expensive and far superior .

Yes that is right, 7075 is only marginally better than 6061, nothing the average Canadian shooter would notice. But 6061 machines a lot nicer than 7075, which the average canadian shooter would notice, especially since NEA machine finishes are rather poor, imagine if they were using 7075...scary

Update

Replacement bolt has arrived this morning. Looks like its a nickel boron, has 4 has rings, extractor is black, but looks beefier than previous one. Took it to the range today. About 500 rounds of mixed Romanian and Russian surplus without any problems so far. It was about -12 C today, moderate lubrication. I will post pictures of the bolt later.
