FN C1A1 breech block

I sold one for $50 a while back. It took a while to sell as well. I don't think that there is much demand for parts due to the status of the firearm involved. It's a real shame as the FN would be my first choice if I could own and shoot one as unregistered.
 
i have seen them for 150, but i never saw one sell at that price. i would probably buy at 40

remember, changing the breech block without changing the locking shoulder can affect headspace.
 
Check head space on the breech block? We were issued them separately don't think I ever had the same one twice never checked head space. Must of been lucky

Agreed, a solution to a problem that never existed, just handed the rifle at stores and a random breech block and off you go.

That came about after the FLQ raided an armory in Quebec and took off with a bunch of rifles, including breech blocks. During my short stay in the militia, they were all kept in one box, you got whichever came up.

^ Well if someone invents a hot tub time machine they can go back about 20+ years and pick up beater Ishapore L1s at $100.
 
The price on th books for the C1 was, IIRC, $173.xx No sn on the breech blocks for FN's or SMG. Just the Browning 9mm barrels.
IF you get one that was specifically for the C1 i.e. not made in Canada, then you may want to confirm head space.
 
Here is an invoice with prices that came from CAL right at the tail end of their existence. While DNDs price was lower in the 50s, inflation seemed to have hit the C1A1 prices like everything else.



And here is one of the rifles from that invoice (sadly deactivated). I have read where the last serial number produced was 8L5015, which would make this one the third last.

 
Headspace was not measured with the bolt. A headspace quage was inserted into the chamber and fitted to the locking shoulder on the breech. The bolt did not come into it. Headspace was changed by repaceing the locking shoulder with a different size.
You can of course use your normal .308 type guage but that is not how it was done by the armourers.
And now you know.

I corrected this post later on but will let this one stand as an example of my probable impending senility :)

I was an armourer for 7 years and inspected countless thousands of FNs. I have tried to find a photo of one but failed. Any X armourers out there with a ref?.
