The current issue of Guns & Ammo AR 15 magazine has an article on the Canadian C7, C7A1 and C7A2 variants.

Our versions get high praise for quality!

Also a side bar article on the Canadian Rangers.
 
Well, they've published another one.

I sent them an email expressing my appreciation and telling them what it's like to be an AR 15 owner in Kanuckistan. Why not add your voice?

I've never owned an AR-15 civvie side. Only ever handle the C7s at work.
 
My military rifle was the FNC1. Wasn't until I became a civvy that I got exposed to the AR 15 platform a looong time ago .... I had contempt for them as I was a dyed-in-the-wool believer in the 7.62x51 as a battle cartridge, a close second to the .30-'06 and .303. I mean, if you're gonna shoot something, SHOOT IT!

My wife bought her AR 15 before I even considered one. Now I'm a convert, not because of the cartridge, but because it's a nice lightweight package that works and handles well. It's the ONLY semi-auto my wife will shoot.

Now I'm trying to ease her toward adding a Tavor to the inventory as it's non-restricted. So far that's not working .....
 
I fell in love with the C7 over 20 years ago when I was a reservist. I recently considered a HK SL8 or an ACR but you can only take a .223 in the woods between Oct 15 and March 31 in Nova Scotia so I would be limited for the nice months. So I spent the money on an AR. might as well have what you want even if you can't take it for a walk in the woods. What a country lol.

My old man was same way. He helped trialed the C7 prototype. Safe, repetition, 4 round burst. Mostly plastic, and had so many stoppages and IAs. He absolutely hated it.
 
I know guys that had done the trial on the FN C1. I saw a couple of these rifles at PPCLI Depot (used for drill purposes) and they were minus a flash hider.

It wasn't well received at the time. Biggest problem was the folding cocking handle seizing up with fine grit and/or freezing shut in the Arctic. I had the same problem in NW Europe with freezing rain.

The rest of the world was happy with the cocking handle that was operable under all conditions.
 
I never could get into the black plastic rifles. Purely a matter of taste. The first time I fired an M16 was in about 72. We were training with the American Rangers in Wainright at the time. On the range, we swapped rifles for a familiarisation shoot. None of us Canadians liked the American Mattel toy (it was nick named that because Mattel made some parts) and the younger Rangers did not like our FNs. The older Americans loved the FN though. They had cut their teeth on M14s, M1 Garands etc.
Like Sharpes said earlier. "if you are going to shoot something, SHOOT it"
I don't have anything technically against the plastic stuff but they just don't work for me.
