Looking for a 22lr to mate with my 9mm for competition this year.
I'm primarily invested in the gsg 1911 and sig mosquito but have heard bad things
About reliability with both... Is there a pistol that outshines either of these?

I know the woodsman is a gem but I don't like the style.
Any insight or suggestions?

A GSG is a clone of a 1911, it is very similar in function. This would make it easy to practice with as both are almost identical. Mine has never given a lick of trouble yet.

I know the ruger 22/45 aint that ###y, but its based of their time proven MK series, goes bang and cycles everytime for me.
I got the one with the removable 1911 grips, so its kinda familiar in hand

What's your budget? What kind of competition? Makes a difference.
The Rugers, for example, are entry level pistols. You have one of those with the SIG. You looking for a higher end target pistol or another big kid's toy? Nothing wrong with big kid's toys, but target pistols they ain't.
GSG 1911 has a mag safety if that matters to you. Isn't a target pistol either though. Whole thing depends on your planned use.

I had a GSG 1911 for a while.
I like shooting it and all, but I am on the 3rd recoil spring guide.
I now installed the complete replacement piece set from Blue Line and am hoping this will fix my problems.

If I were to get a new 22 pistol right now I would look at the Walter PPQ.

+1 A Ruger would be my pick for reliability for sure especially if your going to compete with it.

+1 for the Sig P series .22s.

Any of the buck mark series are stone reliable and as accurate as you can shoot. Same goes for the Ruger mk III. I wouldn't exactly call the ruger an entry level pistol, especially the higher end models, same goes for the buck mark. Run, don't walk away from the mosquito...you will not be happy nor will you ever get it to run reliably. The gsg is ok, but the buckmark will be 4x as accurate for 50$ less if you go for the base model, and never give you issues. If you shoot the gsg alolt, it will give you issues. Maybe not big ones, but they are more maintenance intensive for high round counts. After that, going up in price are the cz kadet or sig 22..neither one is as accurate as the buckmark or ruger, but much more so the the gsg, and won't break like the mosquito, and more reliable then both. For my money the CZ is the best one.

Kimber 22's are ok, but really light due to being built on an all alloy frame and slide, but have the benifit of working in your 1911 gear if that's what you shoot. Same with the gsg.

Depending on what your competeing in, both the M&P and GSG are not paticularly accurate. For idpa shooting out to 15 yards or so they'd be ok. Any of the other's will shoot the wheels off of them.

edit---just saw price range---for that money, either the ruger or a buckmark mid to high end are going to be really nice shooting pistols. Contruction wise, the mp and gsg are toy like compared to them.
