You're Not Gonna Believe This..........

If he was still around you could ask Howard Hughes what the taxman thinks about spending half the year in BC.

Problem is likely resolved as I just spent a 1/2 hour on the phone with my accountant and will be filing my 2014 taxes as a B.C. resident and while in town today I will change my drivers license and health care over, so all should be good............hopefully!!!

Anyway I am neither a tax accountant nor lawyer, so I consult with the experts and listen to THEIR advice, which I have reiterated to you all here..........you can think whatever you like but it is not as simple as most of you would like to think. The tax laws as applied to business owners are nothing like those applicable to wage earners neither are vehicle registration nor insurances, and my information comes right from people who make their living knowing the laws, as they apply to me.

F***k that is real you are no more part of us ...

i will be able to tell the tales about that guy that one day (lol) was in Yukon and left and i even met him ... lol

hope that the stuff is sort Doug.

Phil

sometimes it's money well spent to get a second opinion from a tax lawyer, accountants are good but sometimes you just need another set of eyes to have a good look.

Really a lot depends who is behind the counter.
If you end up having person that think it is prime minister just because they work for any provincial govt.most likely you will have to follow the rules and regulations of any country person behind the counter came from, their own initiative because they have no clue what needs to be done and cream to the cake comes rules and regs.of your local govt.
Enjoy

Well if'n yer a B.C. boy, best ya dun lern oww tuh spuhel :LICENCE:.
Tew C's.

That is awll.

Well I spent the weekend doing the CORE course and passed the exam this aft. I have a B.C. drivers license, have switched over to B.C. health care and have instructed my accountant to file personal taxes for B.C. for 2014. For all who thought I was defrauding Rev Can, my taxes are actually lower in B.C. than in the Yukon and adding a third person to the Health Care policy doesn't cost any more either. I was reaping no benefits from remaining a Yukon resident so the whole issue of "having my cake and eating it too" is BS..........
Now all I have to do is submit my paper work to BCWF and get my certificate and apply for my hunter identification number to purchase my B.C. hunting license for 2015. I have however missed the LEH for grizzly but next spring will be soon enough. I'm thinking a Sitka blacktail and a Columbia blacktail may need to be added to my trophy room this fall and a long hard look at the available bighorn haunts may be necessary as well. I'm thinking this winter may require some cat hunting as well and I happen to know a guy with dogs and expertize...........The possibilities seem almost endless at this juncture...........I am looking forward to hunting them island deer, way less work after the loud bang..........I may actually have to cultivate some friends here...........that could be difficult :d:d:):)

........
And no jaydog, I'm not trying to do anything crooked or shifty, the life I live right now is not out of choice, it is out of necessity and I take great offence to you implying I am trying to scam anyone or do anything illegal, immoral or unethical.

Fair enough- I wasn't trying to say you were pulling a scam, my point was that there are advantages to be had by residency in one place or another and your attempt to maximize that seemed to me to be riding a fine line. If your accountant is saying 'live' in the Yukon then there are repercussions for 'resident' hunting in BC. You found that out and that's what started this thread. I now see that you have chosen hunting over taxes (no surprise) AND got the happy benefit that the tax situation seems to be in your favour more than first thought too. You can't be surprised that the initial 'poor me' post fell on some deaf ears, can you?? In the end its not a decision, but a fact- you own houses in two provinces and the bed you sleep in for more than 6 months a year is located in the province you reside in by default.

Now that its all over- welcome to BC! For hunters its the land of opportunity and I'm sure you will enjoy all of it.

Welcome to BC (bring cash) and glad things are sorted out. Ten years ago when I moved here from Ontario, as I recall I needed to hold a BC DL for 6 months (maybe a year?),which screwed me that year, but when I challenged the test I took the "CORE" version which allowed me to host a Canadian non-resident in two years instead of five.
Things may have changed. Damn I'd love to hunt in the Yukon...

'Looky......WTF are you on about now..........I'm now a full fledged B.C. resident with the core certificate under my belt............it's onwards and upwards from here !!!!!

Welcome to the valley, start exploring the drainages north and south of you, good luck and have fun!
