Got my S&W 617, and i have to admit that is a beautifull revolver, the grips are puny but i had an extra set of nice wooden ones from my 627-8 Times... JP.

JP, you should take the time to shoot your clip against a better back drop with less clutter and better lighting.

I bought a 617 recently and also an early model 17 (both this past December). I was really really looking forward to the 617. I think it needs a little break-in or trigger work however (obvious?) because the m17 is significantly better shooting. Not being an "older is better" snob. I think once the 617 gets a little tuning, it will be a coin toss. The other thing I noticed was that the two guns weigh almost exactly the same, even though the 617 has the full underlug. Balance is obviously different. I tend to like the m17 with more of its weight in my hand verus at the muzzle, however once I started shooting, I didn't really notice it and it certainly had no impact on the fun factor!

These work well to.

I would buy a loading block in a Otterbox etc with the loader makes for a sweet setup

Makes sense if you are using the 617 in one of the shooting sports where fast reloads are advantageous. Good if you like gadgets and accessories too :)

However for target shooting, it is just more stuff on the shooting bench and takes longer overall to load the gun.

No doubt, loading and unloading revolvers is part of the "fun".
Practice loading 2 at a time if you want to speed things up.....

Not that JP needs financial advice but the money saved could go towards a better video camera.... :)

I like those grips and home made snap caps.....can't go wrong with a 10 round cylinder!

The kit is really pretty small not much bigger than a couple of boxes of ammo
