Im looking for a budget 22lr bolt action rifle with a variety of mag sizes.

i was leaning to the savage but the mags size is only 10.

any thoughts?

Savage makes a good entry level, decently priced 22 bolt

What are you hoping to gain by a greater magazine capacity in a bolt action rifle?
Most people want a bolt gun for accurate shots at distance.

Ten round mags should be good for a bolt rifle IMHO

YMMV
Shoot straight - chrisco

If you don't mind a used older gun, the Remington 512 has a 15 shot tube magazine, and they are a great shooting bolt gun.

I'd go with the Savage I've seen amazingly good shots using the basic off the shelf guns and a decent scope

Its for shooting at the range and having fun with. i was thinking it would be nice to have a large clip for pissing around with it

Savage and Marlin bolt actions are good value. A ten round magazine ought to be enough. If it's not, get a second mag. It doesn't take long to swap them. It's a bolt action, after all.

A couple ten round mags usually work better at the range, they don't hang as far below the gun, especially when shooting off a rest.

I have 2 Savage and 2 Marlin 22's - I like 'em all - accurate and reliable little guns. I have 2 or 3 mags for each one so I don't have to reload one all the time.

im a newbie when it comes to guns thanks for all ur replies. i never thought about how far the mags stick out on a rest.

At first my partner shot the 25 round Butler creek for lots of fun after awhile accuracy was the order of the day and the 10 rounders were just fine and saved some ammo lol

My Savage FV-SR was $240 at WSS. It takes 10 rnd mags. Not very pretty, but stupidly accurate, and unlike a pretty heirloom piece, you never worry about bumps & raindrops...
