.375 purchase assistance required

34 he means its just a copy of something that works the same as what was copied.

Kudo just read your sigline had to laugh.

Here is my take when I ask for advise I'm not asking for someone to tell me what to do I'm asking for their thoughts I'll make up my own mind what is the best for me.

In this case it isn't a Ruger or an H&H its a RUM...

If you went to Africa would you take your RUM? Or trade it for an H&H for ammo availability? :)

No question about that for me = due to ammo availability I'd take my 375 H&H.

If I could take a second rifle it would be a tough call between my 21" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 375JDJ or the RUM.

But I can't justify the expense of Africa so the point is moot and if I ever did win the lotto and can afford it I'm buying new rifles when I get there and will leave them with the PH when I leave.

I thought you were selling your H&H? :)

the .375 H&H is a great hunting cartridge, the Ruger .375 is an INTERNET cartridge.

Okay, full stop...I want that on a bumper sticker! :)

Through a combination of bad luck, bad planning and bad airlines, I arrived in Africa without my duffel. I was able to make do with my carry-on, which contained all the essentials, but I had no ammo. A panic-stricken phone call to my outfitter followed, and he asked what the chambering of my gun was. I blurted out ".375". He paused briefly, and then asked ".375 what?", to which I responded "H&H, of course!". I could hear the relieved exhalation of breath over the phone. "No problem, we'll have some in camp." And they did, in two separate camps in two different countries, have an assortment of .375H&H ammo. Instead of firing one or two shots to check my zero as I would have done with my own ammo, I fired 4 or 5 to make the slight adjustments needed for the new ammo, and then went hunting. They didn't have the Ruger cartridge...I don't know if they had even heard of the RUM.

Who gives a crap if they sell the Ruger ammo in the local store, or in the gunshop a hundred miles away? Do you really want to waste time, any time, in Africa running around looking for it? They probably sell batteries, flashlights, slings and a hundred other things as well...do you leave those at home and then start searching for them in Africa?

Despite being a Fudd I used a 375 Ruger in Zimbabwe in 2010. Between my brother and I we shot 2 baboons, 2 impala, cape buff, warthog and civet. It worked just fine although we did run very low on ammo by the end of the hunt (it was a camp rifle...don't take away my GunNut membership for not packing enough ammo!). I'm a traditionalist but you do often have to play the cards you're dealt.

oh no BUM i didnt knew about you using a 375 ruger ... oh dear where we have been here lol .... hope and i wish you enjoyed your hunt despite the ruger fact lol ...

I hate to interrupt all you weirdos and detract from your weekly 375 argument but I gotta ask if any of you have had good luck using Reloader 17 for the 375 Ruger?

No but it works awesome in a short barreled 375RUM.

Come on Gate you should know by now that I talk selling stuff but never do... :)

I'm currently using RL-17 and 270 gr Barnes 3X as my hunting load in my FN .375 Ruger with its 21" McGowan barrel. With 81 grs, velocity is +/- 2700 fps. With 270 gr Hornady IL's and the same charge, velocity is +/- 2750 fps. Accuaracy is 1-1.5" at 100 meters.

Edited to add:

Below is a quote I made on a thread sometime in the past that explains how I arrived at my loads. Apparently hornady's recent manual lists 81/270 gr as been maximum.

I've also done a bit of testing with the Hornady 270 gr SPIL and RL17. Alliant states that RL17 has a similar burn speed as IMR4350 so I started well below Hodgdon's minimum load for IMR4350 and worked up to just below Hodgdons maximum load.#

75 gr - 2494 fps
76 gr - 2546 fps
77 gr - 2595 fps
78 gr - 2656 fps
79 gr - 2673 fps
80 gr - 2698 fps
81 gr - 2751 fps
82 gr - 2801 fp

I've only used RL17 with 300gr NAB

With 81.5 gr I was getting 2725FPS with no pressure signs. Is it a miracle powder? Who knows. I backed off a bit, and H4350 was more accurate anyway.
