I received my Boyd's stock.
43A180104112 CLASSIC SAVAGE 11 TOP BOLT RELEASE BLIND MAG SHORT ACTION CENTERFEED FACTORY BARREL CHANNEL PEPPER LAMINATE FINISHED
I have other Boyd's stocks, and they are fine, but right this minute, I'm saying "Do Not Buy" on the above stock for the Savage Hog Hunter.
The inlet is fine up top. but down below, the inlet for the trigger guard is not even close (I assume it fits a regular Savage 11, not the Hog Hunter trigger guard), but worse is the hole for the front action screw.
The hole itself is just about exactly the same diameter as the bolt head meant to stand on the hole shoulder. Worse, there is a soft plastic bushing (instead of say... a metal washer!) pressed into the hole, which is the devil to get out, and is not strong enough to support the screw.
I tried to use the screws and some washers to put in the action sans trigger guard (so I could check the inlet), and the front screw pushed right through the plastic bushing with minimal resistance, at minimal torque. That bushing is now ruined, and is proving to be the DEVIL to get out of the hole.
So, my options are
1) Sand out the trigger guard inlet, as TonyMo did, drill out or press out the bushing in the stock, perhaps install a pillar in the front, and modify (using a counterbore bit) that hole, so that a nice strong metal washer will bear the screw head properly.
2) Order a DBM kit from Coretac, and make a Ruger GSR with a better barrel profile, better barrel length, and a more useful rail and sight configuration.
3) Shoot the plastic fantastic and sell the Boyd's at a loss (stupid damned bushing!) on the EE.
Neither of 1 or 2 should be described as "drop in", by any means.
EDIT: I tried to go back in time, and order a metal trigger guard from Boyd's, but all they have is stainless, and the shipping charge is... $44. For a trigger guard. Nope.
