Russian SKS45: ID FAQ Collectibles .... update feb 8th, 2011

Picked up a 1953 Tula today after reading through this thread a bit, looks to be in nice shape. Mild refurbish by the looks of it but have yet to strip and clean the cosmoline off of it, it's caked in the stuff. No visible serial numbers ###x'd out but it's got a laminated stock. Will give it a proper cleaning and a thorough inspection as soon as I have a bit of time. This and the cleaning thread made it an easy decision to pick one up as well as a crate of ammo.

Russian Refurbishment Arsenal Markings

Russian researcher Ruslan Chumak has been able to identify several of the Russian refurb marks as noted above. CGN member Ratnik forwarded this information via another gun board.

Chumak served in the archives for GRAU.

GRAU: The Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation (GRAU) (Russian: Главное ракетно-артиллерийское управление МО РФ (ГРАУ), Glavnoye raketno-artilleriyskoye upravleniye MO RF (GRAU)) is a department of the Russian (ex-Soviet) Ministry of Defense. It is subordinate to the Chief of Armament and Munition of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, a vice-minister of defense.

Thanks for the chart. This confirms my 1954r SKS was refurbished in Balakleya at the 1st GRAU arsenal. Nice to know.

Great thread, lot of useful info. Question for you guys, I bought a SKS Tula 1950 and it came with a free floating firing pin, is it possible they manufactured using the free floating firing pin from 1950 instead of 1951?

Many of the 1950 guns have a free floating firing pin. Remember this this thread has to do with Russian SKS45: ID FAQ Collectibles (Collectable meaning non-refurbished/original collector guns). Any combination of parts from different dates are possible when it comes to refurbished guns as during refurbishment they used parts available from all years. Thus many refurbished 50's will have the free floated firing pins as that was available when they were refurbished.

"Hey, guys, pick up a new SCS today. What do you make of these barrel markings?"
Hooray Ograzhdanin RG Vyatskiye Polyany factory. It should be a sign that the barrel has passed pressure testing. A pin in the area of flue gas costs?
