reloading 270

Your gun might be fussy as some are. Mine works extremely well with IMR4064. I was very comfortable with that powder, but decided to try another powder and got tighter groups, with RL22. Just goes to show that you should test several powders, but the two you listed are both great powders !

My 270 really likes H4350. reloader 22 works fairly well too. I get my best results with 52.5 grains of H4350 and a 150 grain SST. CCI 200 Primers.

I shot 49.5 grs of Imr 4064 behind Horn 130 Sp bullets using CCI 200 primers to ignite ! Shot good groups and about 3000 fps ! RJ

That was the load I used in my first .270. Got it out of my Jack O'Connor book and shot the hell out of everything with it. Used Sierras too, whatever the gas station had on sale or in stock. Its 2 grains over the current max according to the Hodgdons site but nothing broke.

My current .270s are running on H4831.

My current 270's run on H4831sc or Vihtavuori N165.

Very good performance with both powders.

IMR 4064 will work, but, IMHO, it's a tad fast burning for the 270 with any bullet heavier than 110 grains.

IMR 4350 should work well.

Regards, Dave.

IMR4350 gives a tick more velocity, but it uses a tick more powder to do it.
You picked which 130? A Barnes TSX gets a tick more velocity with the same loads as a non-copper bullet. Longer OAL and much higher pressures to get there though.

From Sierra with 130 grain:

Accuracy Load: RE-22/ 56.7grs. 3000fps/ 2597ft. lbs.
Hunting Load: RE-22/ 58.2grs. 3100fps/ 2774ft. lbs.

And for 150:

Accuracy Load: RE-22/ 53.7grs. 2800fps/ 2611ft. lbs.
Hunting Load: RE-22/ 55.2grs. 2900fps/ 2801ft. lbs.

Now the kicker . . . try to find some Re22.

Nosler recommends H4350 with 150's and H4831SC with 130's but H4831 is fine too.
