i am undecided between both of these powder dispensors. What are peoples experiences with these dispensors. first hand prefferable. i can get em for almost the same price just a few dollars difference.

thank you
ken.

That's funny, I just picked up a Gen 6 on sale from Cabelas. It works very well for my purposes, as it seems to throw every load an average of 0.12gr lower then the set amount. I trickle up using Gempro to confirm, so the lower throws are perfect.

I have the Gen 6 and have no complaints. Some powders always seem to dispense 0.1gr below what I set it to, others are usually right on. I test charges from time to time on a known good balance beam scale and they're usually less than 0.1gr of what the digital scale says. Emptying it of stick powder takes about 3 minutes and ball powders take longer at maybe 5 minutes because they stick to everything. I swapped out the short brush to empty the hopper for a 3/4" cheap watercolour paintbrush from Micheals art store. It has a much longer handle and broader bristles making it much easier to use. Just make sure it's clean of powder before using it again.

I do need to install the screw-in flow reducer for most stick powders to make it accurate but even with it in it can still dispense a powder charge about as fast as I can pour, seat a bullet, and move the previous round back into the loading tray. With ammo loaded with it I've shot some 200yd 1/2 MoA groups out of my Rem 700 in 308 which is about the limits of my skill most days (I'm no competition shooter, just a somewhat skilled amateur).

I have no first hand experience with the Hornady one so I can't say. I bought the Gen 6 because of it's tiny foot print and lower price since I reload in an apartment and my desk serves purposes other than reloading so space is at a premium.

ok sounds like that is leaning towards the gen 6. i do like the fact that it is smaller then the lock and load, as i also have limited bench space. i got a dillon 650, dillon 550, lyman t mag, lyman luberesizer, and mec 600 jr all on my 6' bench. luckily i got some lee quick mounts that come in handy to move the sizers and shotshell loader off to the side when loading pistol or rifle. at least it can fit beside and behind my lyman for loading rifle.

i have read mixed reveiws on the gen 6 so nest is to hear first hand. thank you guys so far. still more the merrier to charm in.

The RCBS Chargemaster is the most widely used powder dispenser with the largest volume of knowledge and tips that can be found online. RCBS also has better warranty service. I would have bought the RCBS if it wasn't $150 more than the Gen 6 when I bought it; the price had more influence than the size. RCBS had a $50 rebate I believe at the time so it was really only $100 more than the Lyman but that was enough for me. In the US the RCBS is now about $100 more than the Lyman and with the $50 rebate is really only $50 more. At that difference I would seriously consider the RCBS. Of course with the Canadian dollar in the dumps all the math changes.

I bought the Lyman for $269 - 10% at LeBarons. It's now at $289 according to the catalogue on their website. They have the RCBS for $576 but it is available other places for significantly less.
MidwayUSA has the RCBS for US$335 which is CAD$424 - rebate. They don't ship to Canada though.
Brownells has the RCBS for US$349 which is CAD$442 - rebate and they do ship to Canada but you may get charged duty (but you'll be paying tax at LeBarons anyway).
Cabelas.ca has the RCBS for CAD$489 with a $50 rebate.
The Lyman Gen 6 at Brownells is US$239 which is CAD$302 but is out of stock. Less money at LeBarons anyway.

I'm not sure how the RCBS rebate works between the two currencies. If you buy it in Canada do you get US$50 or CAD$50 in rebate? I would assume if you order it from the US it'll be a US$50 rebate.

Any more opinions on the Gen 6?...The RCBS chargemaster just went up in price again in the Lebarons catalogue...almost $100 price hike from a couple of months ago....getting out of my range now

another lyman gen 6 user here. but i am a newbie so i can't give you an accurate and experienced opinion. but i do like it!

I was just coming onto cgn to ask about the Gen 6 and am liking what I am reading here. Reviews seem favorable and the YouTube videos show a decent product. I like the lower price and since I confirm charges with a gempro and trickle as necessary, I just need this to throw the bulk of the charge. Looks like I need to order one of these.

I really like my Gen6. Fast and relatively accurate. Cleaning is not too bad, it gets pretty bad static cling, but nothing a dryer sheet won't help out. I do find that I have to change out the flow reducer for various diff powders, but it's not a big deal. I don't have any experience with the RCBS, but from research it does seem like it has more features, but to me it wasn't worth twice the price.
