Where to Buy or How to Import a Mossberg Mariner 14" Compact? What about a Knoxx SpecOps Stock Folder to make sure its OAL is at least 26"?

If impossible then anyone knows where I can get the parts needed to make one (out of a 18.5" 500 mariner or 590A1 mariner - is the conversion much simpler/cheaper with the latter?) ? Can you get all the parts for the conversion (barrel, mag tube, etc) in the marinecote finish, or only parkerized/blued?

Very interested in a full shotgun. Especially as I see the Mariner is available in 14". Perfect for my needs (coastal bush work)

In for a mariner 14" part #54682

Up until a few months ago Mossberg 14" were around $750-$1000 used. They had not been imported in a long time and people were cashing in on the scarcity.
They are currently available new for less but who knows what the future holds.
Anything is possible but the easy and least costly thing for you to do is buy a 14" off the shelf and then get it gun coated for durability and weather proofing.

Any of them (preferably in Canada) come with a marinecote finish, or just the standard blued/parkerized?

(edited) If you want an aftermarket water-proofing as good as that of those factory marine shotguns I think it would cost several hundreds if not over a grand, if at all possible.

Of all the 14" Mossy's that came here, I don't recall seeing any Marine versions. They look pretty cool... might be worth the premium to have IRG import one for you.

What's the Marinecoat?
Either way what you want isn't going to be "cheap" unless you can find one of the Turkish pumps that were available a while back through one of the sponsors here.
I can't remember who had them but they were a "marine" version 14" with rifle sights and a rail for around $400.00

I'm no gun coat expert but it seems like some of the better coatings done by someone like "murdoc" would suit your needs.

Here's what he charges for Arma-coat but the prices inlcued pakerizing..... a brand new 590A1 is allready parked so that should save you some money....
Option 1 - Arma-Coating rifle: $300.00
(This includes all disassembly, sandblasting, parkerizing, Arma-Coating of the rifle with a color of your choice, and reassembly with lubrication.)

Option 2 - Arma-Coating rifle: $225.00
(Rifle must be completely stripped apart. This includes sandblasting, parkerizing, and Arma-Coating with a color of your choice.)

The knoxx folder is a real dog by the way and pistol grips don't work all that well with Mossberg's control layout.

I like my pistol grip stock on my 14". You get used to taking your hand off and using the safety. Added control, comfort and stability with the pistol grip - in my opinion.

As for the marinecoat finish... once you get your first scratch on it you won't be that keen on the finish. They look pretty bad once marred up.

Pistol grip stocks are great no doubt but in my opinion the mossberg controls are easier to work with a traditional stock.

I'm not sure if Frontier still has them in stock but the one I linked to above is a pretty good value for a compact nickel plated and chromed shotgun.

The Marinecote finish on my 18.5 " Hatsan Optima is far superior to the ones I've seen offered by Winchester and Mossberg.
The finish itself is slick. Literally. It has a smooth Teflon like feel to it. It's not easily gouged.

You guys have seen the marinecote electroless nickel gone on parts of the mariners? Was the steel rusting in those areas? Were they quite old shotguns or somewhat recent (the marinecoat has changed over the years). I was under the impression that many US forces were using the Mossberg Mariners partly because the finish is nearly indestructible.

A few days ago I enquired about http://www.wanstallsonline.com/optima-marine-guard-12-gauge-optmrn1220s.html which I suppose it the gun you are talking about. The guy at the shop said for defence he wouldnt recommend it, to take a Mossberg mariner instead. http://thathuntingstore.ca/ sells it for 289.99$ and its barrel is made of nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel, Aircraft alloy receiver.

I tried to find more info on the Scorpio PA01 Pump Tactical Shotgun 12GA 12.5" Brl Nickel. For example are the internal parts protected as well, etc. I had no luck. Do they even have a real website or just http://www.scorpiofirearms.com/

Should I thrust a Hatsan Optima or a Scorpio with my life against a charging Grizzly? :runaway: I need a reliable gun that will not rust in daily rain and with zero maintenance. "murdoc" if you're reading feel free to comment as well

Zero maintenance will result in failure at some point.
I have no knowledge of Scorpio or the Turkish manufactures. For long term support with parts your better off with Remington or Mossberg.
Even a blued or Parked gun will last fine along the coast as far as function with very minimal maintenance. A bit of rust or pitting on a shot gun is not going to make a difference in how it shoots.

I've seen pretty big gouges and scrapes on Mossberg Mariners. They are a dependable platform though.
I wouldn't take Wanstalls advice on avoiding the Hatsan. I've never had a single issue or failure with the three I currently own. They were likely recommending the more popular gun because they have limited experience with Hatsan.

I believe so ^^^^
I would want a short lop on a short barrel shotgun though. That one looks rather long.

The turk's are making lot's of shotguns and will stamp what ever the buyer want's on them.
For a plated compact gun it's a good buy but not proven in our market.

How much do you want to spend and what do you need the gun for exactly?
Do you have many rusty guns?
