If price was the same and you could buy 1 which one? I would buy the SKS. I bet if the SKS was hard to find and there were lots of Garands. Everybody would be going on and on about the SKS.
 
I'd buy both if they were the same price today.

But for the sake of rules, yeah. I'd likely stick with an SKS. Cheaper to shoot!

I disagree. If the price was the same, I'd say an equal number of people would buy SKSs and Garands. SKS has cheap ammo going for it. The Garand has better sights, greater accuracy, and greater (legal in Canada) capacity. If there was cheap .30-06 around the Garand would win by a landslide.
 
If price were no consideration?

Garand.

Intermediate cartridge rifles are fun little plinkers. But my heart belongs to full powered rifles.
 
SKS for this guy.
.30-06 is expensive as hell and even with reloading, the Garand is finicky with ammunition loads because of the gas system design and the parts affected by it.
Not to mention the amount of powder per case etc.
I have a 1903A3 Springfield but I only shoot it two or three times a year and not very much for just those reasons lol
Don't get me wrong I have respect for the Garand (Canadian Made! ;)) but the ammunition, the completely ridiculous price for even a shooter/rack grade one (inflated from Band of Brothers....) put me off ever owning one pretty much for good.
Especially when you can get an M14 which is basically a Garand with all the negative aspects of a Garand done away with and improved at a fraction of the cost with a much more affordable cartridge of almost equal power.
Just my 2 cents lol
 
The best would be a 7.62x39 Garand.:)

Of course that would make it just a 200yd plinker, but affordable to shoot for a better part of a day.

Interesting take on things but the two are nothing alike in build, use, bullet, age, ect. Its kinda like comparing apple pie to a puppy...
 
Wow.

I was REALLY expecting fire to descend from the heavens and incinerate the OP for having the audacity to even ask that question. I am more than a little surprised by the SKS love here. Don't get me wrong, I love mine too, but... Come on... It's a Garand!
