Has anyone had any problems with law officers when using a Beowulf or LAR15 magazine? I understand the laws behind it but often feel that most law officer aren't as educated in some of these firearms laws. I also remember the guy that had his XCR seized by misinformed officers (http://www.xcrforum.com/forum/7-general-discussion/17001-xcr-siezed-due-misinformation-lar-15-mags-canada.html).

The reason I ask is I finally picked up a T97 and plan on using a LAR15 or Beowolf magazine and want to be prepared for any issues. I plan on keeping a copy of the RCMP letter discussing the matter but was curious if anyone else has had to explain why they're shooting 10 or 13 rounds per mag.

Thanks

Print out a copy of Bulletin 72. Carry it with you.

In fact I keep a whole folder full of gun stuff in case I end up with someone who doesn't know the law as well as I do. I've had other shooters on ranges try to tell me my mags are illegal, but never a problem with LEO.

For what it's worth, the sections you'll want to go over with any LEOs with regards to your Beowulf mags are:

Special Bulletin for Businesses No. 72

Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to provide greater clarity on the maximum permitted capacity of cartridge magazines designed or manufactured for use in more than one kind of firearm. Note that the maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the physical characteristics of the firearm it is designed or manufactured for and the type of ammunition for which it is designed. The maximum permitted capacity of the magazine does not depend on the classification of the firearm, nor does the magazine capacity influence the classification of the firearm.

And also this:

5. Magazines for semiautomatic handguns which contain more than ten (10) rounds of a different calibre

Magazines designed to contain centrefire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semiautomatic handgun, are limited to 10 cartridges. The capacity is measured by the kind of cartridge the magazine was designed to contain. In some cases the magazine will be capable of containing more than 10 rounds of a different caliber; however that is not relevant in the determination of the maximum permitted capacity.

Example:
Heckler and Koch P7 pistol chambered for 9mm Luger caliber:
The magazine designed for the 40 S&W calibre variant of the pistol will hold 13 cartridges of 9mm Luger calibre and function in the 9mm Luger calibre P7 pistol. This is permissible as the maximum permitted capacity of the 40 S&W calibre magazine must be measured by the number of 40 S&W calibre cartridges it is capable of holding, which is 10 such cartridges in the case of the HK P7 pistol magazine.

Always be courteous. Goes a long way.

Carry a copy and highlight the relevant section(s) to avoid the "I'm not reading all this s***" mentality  In my case, I highlighted:

1) The first sentence of #1 so I don't get grief over my 26rd rimfire rifle mags
2) Entire #4 to cover both LAR mags and Beowulf mags

Only one place in town would have enough fudds to foster an environment where someone would say that so my guess is this happened at CDTSA aka Shepard Range?

I have copies of important papers behind the foam in every guncase I own. I also put copies in an envolope in the center console of each vehicle for back up.

Depending on your phone, you could store it there also.

I don't know about that. There was a guy there one busy Saturday with an AR, and no one said anything to him! I asked the guy beside me if (in fact it was an AR) and he said, yup- he brings it here all the time.

CDTSA is allowing all mags in their multigun events.
So you might have an issue from some random people. But not the club

Probably cause some of them were scared you would out shoot them. I have a good buddy in Gagetown who cant shoot for his lunch, guess that's why he's behind a howitzer. HAHAHA

The Bulletin specifically mentions the LAR 15 mags by name, the .50 Beowulf by inference. Don't assume that a LEO is going to take your word for it.

Funny story... This was explained to me 2 years ago by of all people a RCMP officer... He overheard me complain about my pmags being pinned to 5 rounds and offered to let me use his Lar 15 mags... When I asked if that's was legal, he showed me the bulletin 72 and yes he advised me to keep a copy on me when using the Lar mags ... Because not all RCMP are aware of the rules...his words

Yep copy of 72 with me and also carry 6 plastic drill rounds (dummy rounds) for .50 BW. So I can show that the BW mags will hold 5 not 6.
