I shoot right handed (as do most ARs) and my shooting partner (also known as Her Imperial Majesty) shoots left. And outshoots me too!

I have seen some true ambi rifles, possibly from Ruger or Stag Arms? Does anybody carry them in Canada?

Otherwise I'd need to swap out the safety and charging handle, and where oh where do I get these in the True North? Rainier lists an ambi charging handle, out of stock. I got nothing for the safety.

Arms East is the place.

I'm left handed, but other than safety and mag release, don't feel disadvantaged.

Guess I'm also weird in that I only use the charging handle once in a session.

Aero Precision makes an ambidextrous lower. They are on sale for $140 US at the American website. I am just starting a build for a left handed shooter with a girlfriend who wants to shoot also, and she is right handed. Saskastoon Gun Works sells Aero Precision but I haven't seen this on their website yet. I am looking into it and will let anyone interested know if they can be brought in.

Here's my 2cents worth from a lefty AR shooter. Lefties are lucky that with slight mods, all the AR controls can be had on the left, perfect for lefties. In most cases, you can function normally, including mag changes on a stock AR with no mods. If you're comfortable with the rifle, it's not too bad to streamline the technique for quick mag changes etc. If you want to simplify the process, all that's needed for a lefty shooter is an ambi charging handle, ambi mag release and an ambi safety. Bolt release/catch is already conveniently located on the left. A lefty won't need an ambi lower with the bolt release on the right or a BAD lever that seems to cause headaches for some.

As for ejecting brass etc. I've never had ejected brass come back and hit me with an AR with a deflector to necessitate buying a left handed upper in any of my standard right handed AR uppers. If you got the money to build the lady a lefty upper, have at it but I personally think that money could be put towards better things but that's my personal opinion.

We'll both use it so an ambi is preferable to a lefty. I'd rather put money into trigger, scope, etc. rather than stuff we don't need but I think the safety, charging handle and mag release would be all that's needed.

^ +1 on the San Tan.
Then again I'd be up for Phase5, Umbrella Corp, Wilson Combat Lowers or anything newer then the usual suspects (Aero, Spikes, Rainier etc..). As long as they become consistantly avail or even a pre-order/group buy I'm pretty much in.

As a left handed shooter, I used a right handed ar (V7) all last season for 3gun with minor mods. I used a raptor charging handle, BAD A.S.S. and a ambi mag release (can't remember brand).

The only small issue i had was when using my offset irons, the brass would sometimes bounce off my arm and into my lip.

I bought the last 3G-L from arms east for my 2015 match gun. I haven't had a chance to use it in a match yet but just practicing with it, its definitely nice having a left hand ejection. ROs don't care for it though as they always never seem to notice its a lefty until the first piece of brass hits them.

I highly suggest getting your Imperial Majesty a left handed AR. In this day and age, people of all types shoot left handed. It's nolonger a rare thing. In fact, some people need to shoot left handed because they found out their right eye isn't as good as their left. I thoroughly enjoy shooting left handed and switching back. But for someone naturally a south paw (left handed), don't compromise going right handed configuration. And as our original poster said she shoots even better left handed so go with that!

Ambi safety is the only essential mod in my opinion.
Ambi charging handle is nice, but I don't see the need for any mods for the mag release.

I don't think we'll use it so much that it's worth spending on 2 rifles. I've got some other goodies in mind: a 1911, Lee Enfield Longbranch, 40 Watt Plasma rifle.... ;-)
