.375 purchase assistance required

What in God's name has happened to this thread...........I thought it was about helping the OP decide on which 375 H&H he should buy..........how did push feed 458s and the Toronto Maple Leafs ( which of course should be spelled "Leaves" but apparently no one but me has ever noticed the faux pas) get entwined in this thread.

Sorry!

Hear ya c-fbmi ^.
For those of us with a BRNO .375 H&H in hand, this whole thread has been oh so amusing.
And me don't know chit about hockey neither.

vviking, Brnos are nice rifles; I've got a ZKK-602 in .416RM and a CZ-550 in .458Lott, but they are not in the same class as the new Model 70's.

I've got a 'Supergrade' in .338WM, plus a .375H&H 'Safari'; both are the new model, built in South Carolina. The M70 action is so smooth, the function is flawless, and the 3 position safety is indisputably superior to any 2 position safety.

I would not turn down a CZ-550, or ZKK-602 in .375H&H, if I ran across one at the right price. But if the M70 is available, buy it.
Tricky thing is, these M70's do not linger on the shelf. Whenever anybody brings them in, the inventory disappears quickly.

Halifax person: Where are you from?
caper: im from cape Breton island!
Halifax person: don't you mean cape Breton peninsula?
caper: f**k you! i don't care what a map says its a real island!

Got no Argument form me there buddy....
Rob

I'm married to a Cape Ape myself. You don't mess with the CBLA!

Surely sir you jest, a Mossberg as a rifle you may have to bet your a$$ on........really.......I'm outta here..........

nope, I got my Ruger, but I wouldn't look down on someone who doesn't have $1500 for my rifle/scope. These will probably be 5 or 600 , making them ANOTHER affordable way to get a .375 caliber in the cupboard. I just don't see a lot of affordable .375 H & H rifles out there. Not coming down on them. I love tradition. I was in the navy. I am from NFLD. I have always respected tradition. But I also never had a lot of money. That meant buying a .375 was just a pipe dream. Then the Ruger comes out and it is offered now in quite a few platforms. All of them pretty affordable. Seems a win for many people.

For a budget 375 I would be more inclined to recommend a person look for a Zastava or a gently used Remington 798 or Interarms Whitworth. Hell, even an old M700, while push feed and only fit for bifeeduals like Douglas, would be a good way to go.

I think the Mossberg will play a similar role the Savage Stevens did - give guys an inexpensive way to try out a new to them cartridge, take it out hunting, have some fun.

The guys that buy these aren't planning trips to Kodiak Island or Africa.

It's great for the 375 Ruger to be so available to all;)

at least once listen BUM that is a good advice.

we had so many failures with the first batch of mossberg rifles that i will not consider using them as a tomato stick ...

or wait when the vanguard/howa will come in 375 hh or ruger ...

Good point. I have one 375 and one more in mind. However, on the topic of Zastavas, I've recently acquired two. one in .366 Wagner and another in 7x57mm.

They may not be the smoothest action around but they don't cost an arm and a leg either. I only have two to judge by but,:) no complaints on the accuracy.

I bought my Howa 1500 ST 375 Ruger out of curiousity to see if it was as good as rumoured...... it is.
It feeds and functions very well with all loads tried and overall quality of workmanship far exceeds both 375 Rugers I had.
Also it is a good mate for my S2 Vanguard as the controls are identical.

I'm very late to this party but I haven't encountered a better bang for the buck than the Ruger RSM. I also have a stainless Ruger No.1 for those coastal area hunts I've become quite fond of, it replaced my stainless model 70.

As of right now, there are four .375s in the safe. Two doubles, one single, one bolt. The one cartridge to hunt the world with. An excellent BC and Territories cartridge as well.

Hi folks,
Once again thanks to those who decided to offer some sage advice. I don't really know what to say to those who seem to live for an argument other than it's very easy to skip over your posts. I've had the opportunity to fire a Sako rifle, although not the Kodiak and not in .375. But it is a dream rifle and rock solid action. I am going to gamble the $2000 for a Sako 85 in .375 H&H. I just like the idea of a tried, trued and readily available cartridge on several continents. To those who opt for the .375 Ruger, best of luck and good hunting to you.
Cheers,
Roger

Good call Roger, and good hunting.
