CZ 452 FS....factory sights vs aperture sights?

I have a 452 full stock and with the stock sights, even with the front sight all the way at its tallest and the rear sight all the way at 25 M, it shoots very high. Maybe it's just me and I suck with the sight picture.

I can shoot my .44 rifle much better at that distance with the big semi-buckhorn sights.

I wonder if it's just the way the factory sights are. Is it just me or are they pretty difficult to see? The rear notch is quite shallow and the sight picture looks very small and narrow.

Anybody else have problems with these factory irons?

I was thinking of getting some peep sights.

I like the simplicity of the Skinner peep sight (they work great on my Marlin). Would I need to replace the front sight with it?
What about other alternatives?

I have a 452 lux. Sighted for 25 yards and then moved the slider to 50 and was still bang on. Love those sights. I use a 6 o'clock hold as well with them. Shot some gophers with that rifle and those sights at 75+ yards. Slid the sight to 75 and shot the first one at 78 yards bang dead first shot
 
It sure sounds like either you're holding the wrong sight picture or the factory installed too short a front sight.

The front sight is adjustable on this CZ? Typically they are fixed. And the quote shows that you missed a word on the rear sight situation. You want the rear to be lower to shoot lower. Did you move it in the right direction?

I'm a big fan of peep sights because they make those of us with less than stellar vision a little more equal. But some of the simpler ones such as the Skinner don't have a wide range of adjustments. That's fine for a field use rifle but can be an issue if you're shooting for accuracy over a wide range of distances. For that sort of thing you want a model with screw adjustments.

More than likely a Skinner or any other peep sight will require a new taller front sight.
 
My Lux and FS factory sights are bang on... I had Skinner peeps also, which were good with the factory front blade... but my eyesight has deteriorated to the point where all my rifles are scoped.
 
Never had a problem with the factory open sights on my 452 FS and Lux's. They all sighted in fine.
On one of my Lux's I use a Williams FP-CZ rear peep. Not as small and streamlined, but it gets the job done. I haven't used the Skinner, or Techsights, or other alternatives.

I meant to say that the rear sight is all the way to the rear, at the 25 M point. It cannot physically go back any more.
The front site can move up a little ramp and is at its tallest point. The sight # on the front sight is a "2" which is consistent with it being the correct full-stock front sight size.
Unfortunately it still shoots quite high. Even from the bench.

The front sight is really hard to see for me in the rear notch and the sight picture is really "short". The notch on the rear sight is quite shallow.

The semi-buckhorn sights on my lever are a lot less precise but I can shoot them just fine at that distance but even when i get the front and rear sight properly aligned it still shoots quite high, even with a 6 O'clock hold.
 
Doesn't sound right.

My 453 with tangents is pretty much spot on at any distance labeled on the sight and I routinely change it to different ranges.

I will be adding a set of BRNO match sights in a week or so, have a thread going about it that I will update.
