Just got this from prophet river this week. It's going to the range Sunday to break it in and test some group sizes. Nice conpact gun. A little heavier than I would have liked though, and the mag kinda gets in the way for off hand shooting in bullseye stance. Still a nice rifle though!

Yep! I hope to get out for coyotes with it! And I read that the new synthetic stock model is 1lb lighter. I recommend it. I'm gonna try and get a polymer mag for this gun. Might be smaller.

Don't they make flush mags for the .223? Or just .308?

When I used to shoot service rifle the long mag was a big advantage as it was against the rules to use a front rest like a bipod. Mag on the ground was fair game though.

If you find it heavy and you're going to swap out the mag, remove the scout rail and rec sight and use a std scope, why not just buy a conventional lighter weight 223 bolt action?

Is the mag for the scout specific to the rifle, or from a semi-auto?

I bought an MVP because it accepts my AR mags and chambered in 5.56.

I really wanted a Ruger American Ranch but an MVP came up at a good price.

I will probably get a Ruger in the future.

This ^ exactly.

Very reminiscent of the pictures some have posted showing a Ruger Scout, with a regular-eye-relief scope riding in a cantilever mount, which is in turn attached to the scout mount, putting the scope in the standard position. Quite possibly the world's most awkward-looking rifle.

Oh this only has a standard scope for the tine being. Just group testing and maybe monkeying around at some longer distances. I shot today at my friend's farm, and hit some 300 yard steel targets with AE .223 black box ammo. I've got a couple boxes of fed gold medal match I'm gonna shoot at my range to get group ideas before I start hand loading. In the end this rifle will probably be hunted with gold old fashioned iron sights.

Left handed compact heavier profile barrel rifles are hard to come by guys. I don't like savage so here I am. I shot it today prone unsupported and was actually quite happy with the feel of it.
